You need to login with an account authorized to edit the company information. once logged in visit the 'Update my company' page.

If you don't have any login details for your company visit your companies page on our site and click the 'Edit this Company' button. We will then send an email to the registered email address we have on file for your company which will contain the login details you need.

If you have forgotten your password you can use the password reminder page.

If you know your password then after you've logged in you can use the change password page. This will send you an email with a password reset link. this link is only valid for 2 hours so make sure to use it straight away.

There are a couple of common problems people have while trying to login the site.

  • 1. Incorrect Password - You can use the forgotten password screen to send a password reminder email. Be aware that passwords are case sensitive.
  • 2. Incorrect Email Address - If your not certain if your using the correct email address you can use the forgotten password screen to send a password reminder. If you don't receive an email within 30 minutes then we don't have an account with the email address you've used.
  • 3. Your account has been locked - If this is the case you'll see the error message 'This account has been locked out, please try again in 5 minutes'.

All updates are free of charge and can be made as often as required. Company contact updates are completed within a day, but are always subject to validation and sometimes may be delayed. Advertising content is uniquely written by our copywriters and will be completed as quickly as possible.

As we display the information 'as is' from Companies House, if there is an error in the data you need to contact Companies House directly to correct the information.

In order to maintain the comprehensiveness of the directory we apply two tests to check if an entry should be removed.

Unfortunately we can't manually remove the links for you as the only way to have them removed is as described above.

If the reason for this request is because you've incurred a penalty from Google or another search engine for poor quality/paid for links then rest assured that the back links from our site to yours won't do your rankings any harm. We have a good relationship with Google we have never seen links from our site causing a detrimental effect on any of our customers listings.

In addition we mark all our links to customers websites as 'nofollow' links as per Google's guidelines.

Yes you can. Simply email us from the email address you currently use to login with the full names of the companies you want to manage and once we've confirmed your authority to manage the companies we'll link these to your account.

We don't purchase any data in so your entry will most probably have been created by a staff member over the past 20 years.

Alternatively Companies House do provide us with regular updates.

The other most common sources are website and SEO firms who have been employed by the company to work on their website. They will add company information to the directory to help improve your website traffic.

If you have seen information we are displaying which is out of date, we would be grateful if you could email [email protected] with the company name and any other information of which you may be aware.

To help you easily track the traffic to your website from First Directory we append a UTM parameter ( to your domain name when it is shown on the site.

To view your traffic from First Directory in Google Analytics open Google Analytics and go to: Acquisition > Campaigns > All Campaigns. Traffic from First Directory will be shown as 'first_directory'.

Remember this will only show you the people who have visited your website from First Directory. To see how many people have viewed your company profile and advertisers box you will still need to login and visit 'View company page statistics' from the 'My Account' section.

To help protect our users from spam we employ a technique called 'Grey Listing'. This means our mail servers will "temporarily reject" any email from a sender it does not recognize. If the mail is legitimate the originating server will try again after a delay, and if sufficient time has elapsed the email will be accepted.

Most users will never notice grey listing is taking place. However people using old mail servers may receive an email like the one below. There is no need to worry unless the subject says 'Message Delivery Failure'. Your mail server will automatically resend the email after the 15 minute delay.

Customer Questions & Answers on First Directory are a very helpful tool to help users of the site get more information about a company's products.

Because of this it is very important to us that the Questions & Answers posted are as accurate as possible.

Any user of the site is allowed to write a question once they have created an account with a verified email address.

We have no problem with companies asking their customers to add questions to First Directory. However as with other Q&A sites you can't create accounts for customers and post the reviews yourself even with the customers permission as these will almost certainly be removed by the system. Violation of this rule may lead to companies being removed from the site.

Yes. We require everyone who wants to post a question a company to register which helps ensure questions are genuine as well as meaning you can edit or remove your question if you want to later on.

Yes companies will reply publicly to your question.

You can't edit a question once posted as this may make the answer inaccurate but you can remove your question at any time. Simply log into the site and under your profile information we display a list all your questions and you can delete them from there.
