Description

The Department of Earth Sciences wishes to purchase a 193 nm excimer laser ablation sampling system with large-format, two-volume ablation cell, for chemical characterisation of solid geological, archaeological, environmental and biological materials. Typical research activities will include quantification of trace elements in igneous minerals, melt inclusions and carbonates, which are used to answer fundamental questions related to volcanology and magmatism, and explore historic records of climatic change, respectively. The instrument

will be used to analyse complex materials including rocks, minerals, soils, sediments, fossils and archaeological

specimens.

The instrument and all ancillary items should be fully installed and operational before 31st July 2019 (ideally earlier) and will be housed in the Department of Earth Sciences, Durham University.
