Description

Project Summary

Heathrow is looking to procure 45 comfortable, durable seats in the style of armchairs for break rooms

Current Situation

Currently the break rooms at Heathrow have furniture that has been brought together from a number of areas around the airport, airline lounge refits / refreshes, offices, former concessions, etc.

As this furniture is from a number of sources there is little in the way of continuity of furniture in staff rest areas.

This is causing two main issues...

1. This furniture hasn't been specifically chosen for our rest rooms and so we feel there is an opportunity to offer Heathrow Colleagues a more comfortable solution

2. The furniture is often used until is it damaged and then needs to be disposed of as it is unlikely there will be the parts available to repair such a varied inventory

Where do we want to be?

We want to have standardised furniture for the rest rooms at Heathrow that make colleagues feel that we're thinking about and valuing their comfort

Why do we want to be there?

We see this as a first step in the standardisation of staff furniture across the Heathrow Campus

We see this as an opportunity to do the right thing by colleagues, offering them more comfortable places to sit and to reduce waste by having a furniture stock we can repair and keep from landfill

How will we know we've arrived?

If the role-out of this furniture is received as a success due to the comfort offered to colleagues we will be looking to widen the deployment of this furniture to a further 120 break rooms across the Heathrow Campus

Further considerations / though Starters

Can your company offer Heathrow ongoing support for this stock, for example spare parts? How can it be ensured that as necessary chairs can be repaired to ensure that Heathrow gets a decent service life from this furniture

Proposals should be outlined as a short pitch presentation / document in the form of a PDF of no more than 10 slides in length

Proposal documents / link to proposal documents should be sent to [email protected] with the subject 'Rest room furniture'

A shortlist of strong candidates will subsequently be contacted in July so that their proposals can be explored in greater detail.

When evaluating the strength of proposals put forward, we will be judging based on a number of factors including...

Comfort - The most important factor to us, if colleagues don't enjoy sitting on them, they're not the right chairs for us. They should provide support for the entire body, so need to be tall enough for someone to rest their head back and maybe even take a power nap.

Robust - These chairs are going to be used a lot - 24 hours a day in many cases, so how can we be reassured that they're sufficiently robust and are built to last

Easy To Clean - These chairs are likely going to see the occasional spill, we can't be in a position where that ends their useful life

Value - Options need to be sustainable for the business and we need to ensure furniture is providing us with the right value.

Leadtimes - We need to be able to procure items quickly and easily. We would favour stock items that minimise lead times.

Size - We are looking for individual seats as opposed to sofas. We need to be mindful that they are not too large to ensure we have enough seats for everyone to have one. A maximum footprint would be 12000mm x 12000mm at the base.

Branding (Nice to have) - If it would be possible to order furniture in colours matching Heathrow's branding that would be a plus, but by no means a dealbreaker. If furniture meets Heathrow's needs in every other respect we would be delighted to hear more

Heathrow is the UK's only hub airport. Around 70 million people pass through our terminals every year. 190,000 every day flying in and out of 90 different countries. We serve 86 airlines including the national carriers British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Right in the heart of the business world. A huge part of the UK economy, on the doorstep of London one of the world's most vibrant cities.

Heathrow is so much more than an airport. We're a gateway to the world. The first impression when people arrive in the UK. UK's largest single-site employer. Which means improvement is non-stop and extends to everything we do. From investing £1 billion a year on improving the airport to spending millions each year on developing our people. As we continue to improve, we need more people to go the extra mile for our passengers.

We're home to more than 76,500 people from all sorts of different backgrounds. All working together to make every journey better. It doesn't just mean better airlines, terminals, baggage systems, runways, security, facilities and ways of working. A business like Heathrow takes the combined skills of IT, Programme Managers, Engineers, Security, commercial leaders, marketing, communications, HR and more. It means making your career journey better too, through constant development. So on top of the chance to move between departments and transfer your skills, you'll be surrounded by a world of opportunity, where the world meets.
