Description

The University of Northampton is seeking an efficient, innovative, high quality waste management and recycling collection service, conducted in an environmentally sound and sustainable manner. It should be noted that one of the main aims of this contract is to help implement the University's Sustainable Waste and Resource Management Strategy and an overall target of 80% recycling and reuse. As such, the Waste Hierarchy should be applied and Tenderers should show how their proposals would put the Strategy into practice as part of this contract.

The University currently sends no waste directly to landfill and has an estimated recycling rate of 66% (2017/18, by weight, via on-site segregation and off-site treatment, including food waste disposal). Its goal is to continue treating all waste, so that none is sent directly to landfill. It aims to not to send any useable furniture for disposal or recycling. Where technically, environmentally and economically practicable, waste should be segregated, consolidated, weighed and utilised as a resource. Data on the rates and types of diversion from landfill achieved are an important factor in the tender, balanced with the costs of collecting such data.

The Contractor shall be responsible for the management of the services as defined herein. The Contract is for the provision of a comprehensive management service, including the collection, removal and recycling/re-use/disposal of wastes listed in the tender documents from the University of Northampton's main Waterside Campus (NN1 5PH) as well as from other University owned site: Boughton Green Road Halls of Residence (NN2 7AL), St George's Avenue (NN2 6JD), Podiatry Clinic, St. John's Hall of Residence, University of Northampton Innovation Centre, The Platform, Development Hub, UNO Riverside Depot and iCon Environmental Innovation Centre (Daventry).

It is anticipated that the Contract will commence on 6 April 2020 and will run for 3 years with an option to extend for a further 1 year.
