Overview

Products

East Midlands based Amber Composites Ltd specialises in the development and manufacture of performance composite materials.

The company was established in 1988 and provides first class products and services to customers in a range of industries such as motorsport, automotive, industrial and marine.

Here at Amber Composites Ltd, we are committed to developing and creating outstanding materials that meet the demands of the industry.

We are continually evaluating and developing our services in order to provide customers with top quality, effective materials. In January of this year (2013) we were acquired by the TenCate Advanced Composites Group (part of the multinational Royal Ten Cate) to specialise in thermoset composite material manufacture. This provides customers with access to thermoset systems that are currently only produced in USA facilities.

Aluminum Honeycomb

Amber Composites is pleased to boast the largest independent core processing operation in Europe. Alongside our syntactic Amlite and expanding Amspand core, we also offer Aluminium, Nomex® and Kevlar® honeycomb.

We hold extensive stocks of commercial and aerospace grade Aluminium Honeycomb. Our AAC commercial grade honeycomb is made from 3003 alloy aluminium foil while our AAA core is a structural aerospace grade aluminium honeycomb available in 5052 and 5056 alloys in a range of densities.

Nomex Honeycomb

We also hold extensive stocks of Nomex® Honeycomb. Our ANA aerospace grade and ANC commercial grade core materials are manufactured from Nomex® paper sheets and are coated and bonded together with a high modulus phenolic resin. Please visit our website to view our Aerospace Grade Datasheet and our Commercial Grade Datasheet. Aerospace grade honeycomb core features high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent fire-resistance and self-extinguishing properties, high temperature capabilities and good dielectric properties. Commercial grade honeycomb core also features high strength-to-weight ration, fire resistant/ self-extinguishing properties and is a good thermal and electrical insulator. All materials can be cut to suit specific requirements.

Flex-Core

Flex-Core® honeycomb is created using either 5052 or 5056 aluminium alloy foil and is available in two cell sizes. It features unique cell configurations that permit small radii of curvature without deformation of the cell walls of loss of mechanical properties.

Flex-Core® is available in the following configurations:

  • 5052/F80 - .0013N Density 4.3
  • 5052/F80 - .0025N Density 8.0
  • 5056/F80 - .0014N Density 4.3

It features the only commercially available aluminium honeycomb core that has been specifically designed for formability. Flex-Core® also retains mechanical properties in sharpe curvatures.

Syntactic Core

Please also visit our website to find out more about our fantastic range of syntactic core materials. The range includes:

  • Amlite LT64: a 50°C (122°F) to 80°C (176°F) temperature curing epoxy resin film incorporating low density microspheres and supplied in 625mm x 400mm sheets.
  • Amlite SC72A: a 120°C (248°F) curing unsupported epoxy resin film incorporating low density microspheres, and supplied on 15m x 400mm rolls or in 625mm x 400mm sheets (0.25m2).
  • AmliteSC8020A: an unsupported epoxy resin film incorporating low density microspheres.
  • Amspand ES72A-2: a 125°C (257°F) curing expanding unsupported epoxy resin film incorporating low density expanding microballons, and supplied in 625mm x 400mm sheets (0.25m2).

Prepreg

Our prepreg systems have been developed, tested and proven during the last 20 years. They are available in woven or unidirectional (UD) reinforcements and feature curing temperatures from 50°C (122°F) to 175°C (347°F) and end-use temperatures as high as 300°C (572°F).

The range includes:

  • Low-temperature Prepreg: incorporates epoxy resin systems with a range of viscosities, pre-impregnated into high-performance fibers such as carbon, glass and kevlar.
  • Mid-temperature Prepreg: incorporates epoxy and cyanate ester resins systems with a wide range of reinforcement fibers such as carbon, glass and kevlar.

The range also includes: Cyanate Ester Prepreg, Out-of-autoclave Prepreg, Fire Retardant Prepreg and Tooling Prepreg. Please see full descriptions on our website.

Fabric

We supply a wide selection of high technology reinforcement fabrics in a range of materials, colours, weights and weave styles. A large amount of our fabric is used in our prepreg although we also supply standard fabric rolls with a nominal length of 100 metres.

The range includes:

  • Aramid, Hybrid and Nylon: weave styles to suit a range of applications with weights ranging from 88 – 210gsm.
  • Biotex Flax: provides high performance and easy processing.
  • Carbon: weave styles to suit a range of applications with weights ranging from 120 – 650 gsm.
  • Glass: weave styles to suit a range of applications with weights ranging from 50 – 870 gsm.

Adhesives

We also provide adhesive films suitable for a range of bonding applications. Our EF range was developed specifically for bonding honeycomb core to aluminium or fiber-reinforced skins.

The range includes:

  • EF72: a high strength epoxy adhesive formulation supplied in the form of a lightweight flexible film intended for metal to metal or sandwich core to skin bonds.
  • EF44: a high strength low temperature cure epoxy adhesive formulation supplied in the form of a thin film for general adhesive applications.
  • EF8020: a high strength epoxy adhesive formulation supplied in the form of a lightweight flexible film.
  • Redux 212-NA: a range of foaming adhesive films in sheet form.
