Hull Condition / Steel Renewal / Pre-docking

Hull condition surveys can be tailored to meet the particular requirements of various classification societies. Our inspectors understand what each society requires in order to attain a particular standard and can conduct surveys accordingly. Reports will include precise details of the areas of wastage/damage, drawings, photographs, steel renewal specifications, and staging and coating requirements. Once compiled, the report can be used by the manager/owner to obtain quotes from shipyards on the actual work required. Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement

The team at MIS have years of experience performing UTM surveys, so you can count of us for quality. We provide assistance in all aspects of the survey, including planning document preparation, survey programme organisation and completion of UTM requirements to Class rules. We can also compile a steel renewal report to cover any areas of wastage and provide a steel inspector to supervise the repairs and ensure they are completed on time and to the highest standard. Steel Inspections

Steel repairs need to be supervised by qualified, experienced technicians if you’re to avoid the financial and environmental cost of an inferior job. All of our steel inspectors are qualified to internationally recognised weld inspection standards, have years of experience in ship repair and are well-versed in IACS requirements. They act as the owner’s quality control representative onsite at the shipyard, ensuring that nothing is missed and the highest quality is maintained. Non-Destructive Testing

Non-destructive tests carried out by MIS technicians include ultrasonic flaw detection, magnetic particle examination, eddy current inspection and dye penetrant testing. Coating Condition Analysis

MIS also offers specialist coating surveys designed to give a detailed evaluation of coating breakdown and defects. Reports will include a photographic guide demonstrating the coating’s condition, a summary of the areas/percentages that require recoating, and a suggestion of the type of coating needed. As experts in surface preparation and coating standards, our inspectors can also supervise coating repairs at drydock.

Offshore Services

MIS has a wealth of experience working on FPSOs and FSOs and can provide a range of inspection services for clients within the offshore industries. Rope Access

Industrial Rope Access is a safe working procedure that allows tests to be carried out at height or in areas that are difficult to access. Our inspectors have been carrying out rope access surveys on ships for over 20 years and have a solid understanding of the techniques involved and when/how to use them. MIS has conducted rope access surveys for some of the world’s leading shipping companies and oil giants, including Teekay, Shell, BP and MOL. All of our inspectors are IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) trained and examined. They have completed rope access projects in shipyards throughout the world, from Norway to China, Singapore to Curacao.
