Products

Chartway provides subcontract precision engineering services for clients across a variety of industrial sectors, including aerospace, defence, electronics, instrumentation, automotive engineering and chemical processing. Every year we produce millions of precision machined components in line with customer specifications – in 2012 alone we delivered over 8 million piece parts to more than 60 clients in 7 European countries.

Our extensive manufacturing facilities enable us to take on projects of all sizes and complexities, and our considerable experience across many different sectors means we can deliver the goods on time, within budget, and to an extremely high standard. Chartway has been at the forefront of the precision engineering business for more than 20 years, providing first-rate products and first class services.

As well as carrying out a range of manufacturing processes such as CNC turning, CNC milling, presswork, wire erosion, wire cutting and forming, Chartway engineers are also able to offer their experience and expertise in product development and prototyping. So if you have an idea for a new product that you’d like developing, just give us a call.

Our machining capabilities cover all grades of materials in Copper, Brass, Aluminium, Mild Steel, Stainless Steel and many of the more exotic grades such as Incalloy, Duplex and Hastalloy. We also regularly work with aerospace materials such as Titanium.

More information on our engineering services can be found in the sections below and on our website. If you would like to discuss a project with one of our experts, get in touch on 01384 880601.

Manufacturing Capacity

A summary of our manufacturing capacity:

  • Precision CNC turning on multi-axis, sliding head turning centres up to 42mm (dia).
  • Precision CNC milling on vertical machining centres to exacting tolerances.
  • Wire erosion of complex components to tolerances of 3-5 microns.
  • Precision laser cutting of materials up to 10mm thick.
  • Wire cutting and forming of precision components up to 6mm (dia).
  • Press work / metal pressing of sheet metal components up to 3mm thick.
  • Press brake sheet and plate bending using machines with a 50 tonne maximum bending capacity, 2000mm maximum bending length and 5-axis operator control.

CNC Milling

At our facility in Brierly Hill we have 12 CNC vertical machining centres allowing us to produce close-tolerance milled parts extremely quickly and cost-effectively. These millers are particularly useful for creating prototypes or for tool making. They can be used to process a range of materials -  including aluminium, steel, tool steel, stainless steel, copper, titanium, brass, alloys and plastics - and can work from plate stock of up to 1000mm  x 500mm x 200mm. Our CNC vertical machining centres are commonly used in the production of components for the automotive and aerospace industries, as well as for general engineering projects.

CNC Turning

We have a variety of CNC lathes for the production of precision turned parts, including platten type lathes and Swiss type sliding head lathes with fixed tools, live tools and front and back working tools. Chartway can process round and hexagonal bar from 3mm to 42mm (dia) – in aluminium, steel, tool steels, stainless steel, brass, copper, phosphor bronze, titanium, elkonite and specialised alloys, as well as various plastics such as nylon, PEEK and Tufnol. For a full list of machines and associated tools, please head over to our website.

Wire Erosion

Wire Erosion involves the use of a metallic wire (electrode) to cut a programmed contour in a work-piece. Each electrical discharge removes a layer of material in the work-piece to create a crater. By setting the wire on an incline, it’s possible to produce components with taper or different profiles at the top and bottom of the work-piece. Using an Agie 100D Wire Eroder and a Charmilles Robofil 290, we can process a wide variety of materials and achieve tolerances to within 3-5 microns. Visit us online to find out more.

Laser Cutting

Laser Cutting is an extremely accurate process that facilitates the production of complex parts and components. First a design is made on the computer – this design is then read by the laser cutting machine, which uses the information to automatically guide the laser and thus create an exact physical replica of the original design. At Chartway we have two Amada Laser Cutting Machines, allowing us to work on a variety of materials and handle sheet sizes up to 1550 x 2500mm. Find out more about our laser cutting capacity by visiting Chartway online.

Wire Cutting and Forming

At Chartway we have a number of wire cutting and forming machines capable of turning and threading components up to 6mm in diameter. We can handle a variety of materials, including mild steel, stainless steel, nickel, brass, copper, beryllium copper, aluminium and phosphor bronze, and can supply cut and formed parts in batch quantities ranging from 500 to 1 million plus. Our wire cutting and forming machines are commonly used in the production of aerospace, medical, automotive, electrical, white goods and general engineering components.

Presswork

With presses ranging from 3T to 110T in capacity, we’re able to cater for most presswork requirements. All of our progression presses are servo roll fed with Bruderer digital servo roll feeds, allowing the accurate and continuous transfer of raw materials. Pressed components can be supplied in batches ranging from 500 to 1 million plus. We can handle a range of materials and can offer full tool design and manufacture in-house. For more information, please get in touch on 01384 880601.

Metal Fabrication

Using our state-of-the-art Amada Press Brake Machines, we’re able to bend a variety of sheet metal materials, including aluminium, steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, phosphor bronze, titanium and specialised alloys. We also have facilities for welding, including Gas Metal Arc Welding and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. Find out more about our metal fabrication capacity by visiting Chartway online.

Hot Forging and Precision Machining

Hot forged components are supplied by Chartway Asia, our sister company operating out of China. Since its establishment in 2002, Chartway Asia has grown to become a leading supplier of components to OEMs throughout Europe. A hot forging workshop equipped with 32 sets of hot forging machines ranging from 25 to 400 tonnes facilitates the production of forged blanks up to a maximum of 10 kilos. Modern forging processes ensure very precise, high integrity forgings with outstanding strength.
