Pressure Switches

Bailey & Mackey offers a range of pressure switches all built to the exacting standards required of such precision devices. Each individual switch is also subject to a series of stringent pressure and calibration tests before being despatched to our customers. We currently offer three main types of pressure switch:

  • Diaphragm Switches
  • Piston Switches
  • Boudon Tube Switches

You can find out more about how they work and the applications for which they are most suited by visiting Bailey & Mackey online. Many of our pressure switches can be modified to suit individual requirements, so if you need a custom device, please contact us on 0121 357 5351.

Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauges

Bourdon tube gauges comprise of a formed tube that has one end fixed and the other end free to deflect under-pressure. They are only suitable for applications where the material of the tube (beryllium copper of stainless steel) is compatible with the fluid in the system. Those manufactured from stainless steel can be used with most corrosive fluids and in many corrosive environments. Bourdon tube pressure gauges are designed and manufactured to the accuracy standards set out in BS EN 837. The maximum pressure we manufacture to is 700 bar (10,000 PSI). To find out more, please visit Bailey & Mackey online.

Diaphragm Pressure Gauges

Diaphragms have a greater mechanical stability than Bourdon tubes and can withstand mechanical shock with less damage. They can also be protected against aggressive liquids and gases by fitting a thin, flexible disc of resistant material between it and the corrosive media. Diaphragm gauges protected in this way are technically preferable to using Bourdon tube pressure gauges fitted with a chemical seal. Their large entry passage also means they are ideal for measuring pressure in viscous liquids, powders and slurries. For more information on our diaphragm pressure gauges, please visit Bailey & Mackey online.

High Pressure Diaphragm Gauges

Our high pressure diaphragm gauges (Type 70, 70A and 70B) are available in 100mm and 160mm (dia) versions and can measure pressure up to 40 bar. They have an all-metal construction and can be made with special dial markings as required. Type 70 high pressure diaphragm gauges have a direct mounting bottom connection, Type 70A versions have a centre back connection (3-hole fixing) for panel mounting, and Type 70B gauges have a clamp fixing centre back connection for panel mounting. For technical details, please head over to our website where PDF datasheets are available for download.

Diaphragm Pressure Gauges Temperature Transmitter

Also available are a range of diaphragm pressure gauge temperature transmitters suitable for liquids of most viscosities. These two-in-one devices can be used to measure pressure and fluid temperature in applications up to 300°C. They are particularly useful in applications where a syphon tube cannot be fitted. Find out how they work by visiting Bailey & Mackey online. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask - we’re available on 0121 357 5351.

Differential Pressure Gauges

A differential pressure gauge is a device used to measure the difference in pressure between two points in a pressurised system. They are often connected across filters to indicate their condition, or across a boiler where they play an important part in energy management. Like all of our instruments, differential pressure gauges from Bailey & Mackey are built to the very highest standards to ensure maximum accuracy and reliability. Each individual gauge undergoes a series of stringent pressure and calibration tests before leaving our production facility. Find out more about differential pressure gauges and how they work by visiting Bailey & Mackey online.

Low Pressure Differential Pressure Gauges

Our low pressure differential gauges (Types 95, 96 and 97) are available in 100mm and 160mm (dia) versions and have a maximum operating pressure of 400 mbar. They have an all-metal construction and can be made with special dial markings as required (for example, kN/m², kPa, Kg/cm², cm Hg, inches Hg, cm Water, etc.). Low pressure differential gauges from Bailey & Mackey are unaffected by static pressure changes, safe against pressure surges, and feature unbalanced pressure protection. For technical details, please visit Bailey & Mackey online, where PDF datasheets are available for download.

High Pressure Differential Pressure Gauges

Our high pressure differential gauges (Types 91, 92 and 93) are available in 80mm, 100mm and 160mm diameters and have a maximum operating pressure of 6 bar. They have an all-metal construction and can also be made with special dial markings as required by the customer (for example, kN/m², kPa, Kg/cm², cm Hg, inches Hg, cm Water, etc.). High pressure differential gauges from Bailey & Mackey are unaffected by static pressure changes, safe against pressure surges, and feature unbalanced pressure protection. For technical details, please visit Bailey & Mackey online, where PDF datasheets are available for download.

Diaphragm Pressure Switches

Bailey & Mackey supply diaphragm switches consisting of either synthetic rubber or a corrugated metal diaphragm. Diaphragm switches are the more versatile of the two as the synthetic rubber is limited in compatibility. Metal diaphragm switches have the capability to be treated to meet most chemical applications. Diaphragm switches normally operate to a pressure of 42 bar but also have the ability to be overload protected to 200 bar. The diaphragm pressure switches supplied by us can also be set to switch in a vacuum. Our range of pressure switches have been built to the highest quality as required for precision equipment.

Piston Pressure Switches

Piston switches are the next step up from diaphragm switches and usually used where the pressure is above that which can be handled by diaphragm switches. The piston switch has an o’ ring seal, mounted either in the body or on the piston. Due to the inherent high friction of the o’ ring, piston switches should not be used on gasses, especially when pressure is not applied for a length of time. Piston switches have the capability for high pressure applications with a maximum pressure capability of up to 700 bar. Browse our website to view more details of our high quality pressure switches.

Bourdon Tube Pressure Switches

Our Bourdon tube switches are used for high pressure gas applications. The tube switches consist of high quality formed tube, one end of which is fixed with the other end free to deflect under pressure and operate an electrical switch. Bourdon tube switches can handle pressure of up to 600 bar. Our range of pressure switches can be tailored to suit your specific requirements and we can manufacture pressure switches with a maximum pressure of 700 bar (10000psi). Our website holds more information of the pressure switches manufactured by Bailey and Mackey and a downloadable catalogue is available at our website.

Vacuum Bourdon Pressure Guages

Bailey and Mackey manufacture a range of Bourdon pressure gauges including vacuum pressure gauges. We supply all sizes of Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauges for indication of vacuum relative to atmospheric pressure. Gauges that are calibrated 0-30in HG or 0-760mm HG will include pointers moving in a clockwise direction on increasing vacuum. Pointers that move anti-clockwise will usually be gauges calibrated 0-1 bar. We do not supply Absolute Pressure Gauges in our range. All of our pressure gauges are manufactured to the highest workshop standards as required for precision equipment. Examples of our range of pressure gauges can be found at our Bailey and Mackey website.

Combined Pressure And Vacuum Bourdon Pressure Guages

Our Bourdon pressure gauges include combined pressure and vacuum gauges. These gauges are used to indicate both pressure and vacuum in one instrument. As with all of our pressure gauges you can be assured of a high quality product and we only manufacture and supply gauges of the highest standards as required by these precision instruments. All of our pressure gauges are rigorously tested and inspected including a series of pressure and calibration tests before we dispatch to our customers. We have the workshop, experienced engineers and the  capability to manufacture out pressure gauges to a maximum pressure of 700 bar (10000 psi).

Diaphragm pressure Guages for Liquids and gases

A diaphragm pressure gauge does have benefits over other gauges including that they are more mechanically stable with the ability to withstand mechanical shock and exhibit less damage. We offer diaphragm pressure gauges that can withstand aggressive liquids and gasses, and this is achieved by fitting a flexible disc of resistant material that acts as a barrier between the gauge and the corrosive element. Pressure chambers and bases can also be made from a suitably protective material. Our liquid and gases gauges are made to the highest workshop standard as required for these precision instruments.

Diaphragm pressure Guages for Viscous liquids and powders

Our diaphragm pressure gauges can be used on viscous liquids, powders and slurries. The connection of the gauge can have a large entry passage or alternatively the diaphragm pressure gauge can be fitted directly onto hygienic fittings or pipe flanges. Bailey and Mackey manufactures and supplies their diaphragm pressure gauges only after rigorous testing and inspection including stringent pressure and calibration tests. Our entire range of pressure gauges is manufactured to the highest workshop standards to ensure that our customers receive only high quality instruments. More information on our range of diaphragm pressure gauges can be found on our website.

Diaphragm pressure Guages for Operating conditions

Bailey and Mackey can and does manufacture diaphragm pressure gauges for a number of different operating conditions. Our gauges can be fitted with overload protection as well as pulsation dampers fitted above the working diaphragm. We are able to tailor our diaphragm pressure gauges to your requirements. We only dispatch our gauges once they have been rigorously tested and inspected to ensure they are suitable for the job. Our gauges are made to the highest workshop standards to ensure that our customers receive a high quality, efficient and reliable product as you would expect from a precision engineered product.

Piezo Resistive Pressure Transducers

Our pressure transducers are produced for a diversity of industries and we manufacture the transducers in collaboration with our end users. We offer a Piezo Resistive pressure transducer that use sensors incorporating Piezo resistive circuitry on a silicon diaphragm. The small signal is amplified to give a useable output, the two most common being 4-20mA or 0-10 Volts. Our Units can be supplied with cooling coil transmitters for use with hot liquids or gases; 50mm pipe flange, for mounting on pipes carrying slurry or powder and full chemical seals, for applications where a corrosive pressure medium is present.

Hall Effect Type Pressure Transducers

Our pressure transducer range also includes a Hall effect type that is activated via movement of a magnet attached to a spring diaphragm which changes the output from a Hall effect sensor. The small electric signal is amplified by specially developed electronic circuits to give a useable output of 0-10 Volts. Available in pressure ranges from 0-100 mbar up to 0-250 bar and differential pressures from 0-100 mbar up to 0-10 bar, adjustment of gain (range) and offset (zero) is available on all types. We also offer a range of additional equipment including powder supplies as well as digital and analogue meters. This ancillary equipment is designed to complement our pressure transducers.
