The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is seeking a wide variety of shipping data. As such there are a large number of questions covering a wide variety of areas throughout this market engagement. Effort has been made to group similar requirements to facilitate respondents answering questions quickly. All answers will be kept confidential and used to inform ONS' understanding of available data related to shipping in advance of tendering for shipping data.
This Request for Information (RFI) is requested to be completed by industry partners. Its purpose is to collect detail about the data that is available. This information will be used to help make a decision on what steps to take next.
There are a variety of themes of data required:
o Commercial Shipping Register
o Second-hand and Bareboats
o New Ship Sales and Purchases
o Brokerage
o Goods and Services Purchased
o Wages and Salaries
o Charter Rates
o International Freight
o Coastal Freight and Freight Fates
Suppliers are requested to complete all of the worksheets within the attached workbook for which they hold data.
Next steps:
Completed RFI responses are required to be returned to the office by 12 noon on Tuesday 22nd January through the ONS e-tendering portal. It may be, that ONS will wish to discuss details provided with potential suppliers. It is anticipated these discussions will take place between 21st and 22nd January. Suppliers are requested to keep these dates available should ONS wish to have discussions with suppliers. Please note there is limited cover in the office over the festive period. Any queries regarding this RFI should be sent through the ONS e-tendering portal, a response will be provided after the 3rd January.
