Description

The West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) was established in April 2017 to create new jobs, expand existing businesses and attract new businesses and investment to the region. It is aligned to the ambitions set out in the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) Strategic Economic Plan.

The WMGC has been established in partnership with Local Enterprise Partnerships, local authorities, Growth Hubs, universities and a wide range of businesses across the private sector. It focuses its core activities across Greater Birmingham and Solihull, Coventry and Warwickshire and the Black Country, with the potential and scope to deliver services in a wider Midlands context.

The WMGC is owned by the WMCA, its Constituent Members and Universities, with governance that heavily involves the private sector in the majority. Its core WMCA and local authority funding will be used to attract significant additional funding from the private sector and other sources, such as future Devolution Deals.

As part of the Midlands Engine (ME) economic development project, the Midlands will go to MIPIM (the world's leading property investment event) in Cannes in March 2019 as a unified group, promoting the region. The Midlands UK delegation will comprise leaders from the Public and Private sector from all over the ME region, (Shropshire to Lincolnshire and Derbyshire to Warwickshire). The absence of a scheduled flight from Birmingham (or East Midlands) to Nice in March has made travel inconvenient and lengthy, involving either changes in Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam, or a long drive to Luton or Heathrow. For the first time in 2017, a charter flight was commissioned by the 'WMGC' working with our appointed broker and Birmingham Airport. After this success a charter flight was also run in 2018.

The WMGC works as a key partner within the Midlands Engine partnership and is charged with project managing the Midlands Engine presence at MIPIM 2019.

This contract is for MIPIM 2019 for charter flight services.
