Writer Pictures is a specialist image library that gives you access to thousands of professionally-taken photographs of literary figures. We provide newspapers, magazines and publishers with high quality images of authors, academics, poets, playwrights and other types of writer.
Our collection currently includes more than 200,000 portraits, and this number continues to grow. Set up in 2004, Writer Pictures has quickly amassed a large database of images and has become a valuable resource for publishers throughout the UK and beyond.
As well as offices in London and Edinburgh, Writer Pictures has a large network of photographers working across Britain, France and the USA. In fact we have more than 200 contributing photographers and institutions.

Over the last 10 years we have been photographing thousands of writers in their homes and on set and adding their images to our archive so that publishers are able to source top quality images for their articles, reviews and interviews. We now supply newspapers and magazines on a daily basis.
We are also able to arrange photoshoots for more up-to-date images – Writer Pictures has more than 200 professional photographers in its address book who can be hired for work as and when required.
Writer Pictures also now covers prominent events on the literary calendar, such as the Booker, Costa and Orange prizes, as well as many literary festivals.
Writer Pictures was established in 2004 by Alex Hewitt and Graham Jepson. Their aim was to supply high quality images of literary figures for publication in newspapers, magazines, journals and other periodicals.
Before setting up Writer Pictures, Graham had been a busy photographer shooting many renowned authors for various publications, whilst Alex was working on a national newspaper picture desk. From both sides of the industry they noticed a gap in the market for good images of writers. And so Writer Pictures was born.
In the decade since its launch, Writer Pictures has built a large database containing tens of thousands of author images and has supplied all UK national newspapers.
