Set up in 2005, and with a number of projects and innovative products already in its portfolio, The R&D Factory, based in Flintshire, North Wales has been concentrating on developing and bringing to market “Streamoulding” - a water foaming technology for injection moulded plastics. A business very focused on profit but at the same time very open minded and welcoming to “left-handed thinking”, The R&D Factory’s two directors, John Heaton and Peter Woodworth, have a wealth of experience when it comes to the roles they play in the business; John possessing at least 20 years in management and Peter 20 years in operations.
Offering something unique within the injection moulding industry, Streamoulding is a new and innovative approach to lightweight plastics for injection moulding; being the only plastic foaming technology in the world that uses tap water to foam the polymer in the nozzle of an injection moulding machine.
Within just a few hours, the equipment can be installed and working as no other changes are required on the injection moulding machine or moulds, and, the material in the barrel and hopper remain unaffected. The process boasts potential 40% weight savings along with significant cycle time reductions (upwards of 20%) and energy savings in excess of 30%.
