Coating Systems

The RPM Group have a wealth of experience and in-depth knowledge of both the manufacture and application of coatings, so we are able to advise clients of which coating system will be the most appropriate for their individual requirements.

We offer Flake Reinforced Coatings, using glass flakes, which is the most common reinforcement. The glass flake reinforced polyester and vinyl ester coatings provide exceptional chemical resistance and corrosion protection for a long time. Epoxy glass flake coatings are low odour, solvent-free and offer good abrasion and chemical resistance properties.

GRP Laminates are a heavy-duty lining made from polyester or vinyl ester resin, and re-enforced with strand glass fibre. This is particularly useful for concrete tanks and bunds, as well as steel and concrete substrates, as it can withstand hairline cracking.

Moisture Cured Polyurethane offers a flexible and seamless waterproof membrane, so it is ideal for flat roof coating and bund lining. It uses the moisture in the atmosphere to activate the curing process, so it can be applied in almost any conditions and is highly durable when exposed to the elements.

Coating Systems - Application Methods

Our application methods include: Brush and Trowel, which is used for heavy duty coating systems and for severely corroded castings and laminate systems base coats. Our Airless Spray is ideal for coating larger areas, with base and hardener mixed prior to going through the machine. The Hydro-Cat is a plural feed hot airless spray, which is used for Polyurea coatings and other coatings that have a very quick cure cycle, where two components are automatically controlled and mixed. Pipe Spraying is suitable for safely applying DWI-approved epoxy linings to tanks and vessels for the water industry. Maintenance

At RPM Group, we know that preventative maintenance is an extremely vital part of any industry, and is the best and most cost-effective way of maintaining productivity and avoiding unnecessary disasters. Corrosion costs the UK up to 4% of GDP per annum, so our full regular coating inspection, testing and repair services will give you the peace of mind that corrosion will not affect your business. Our maintenance services cover a full range of tanks, vessels and pipes. We are able to carry out full coating inspections at our site, or we can visit you to inspect the vessels. RPM will provide a full inspection sheet showing any findings, and details of any recommended repairs that might be required. Please click on the link to find out more about the process.

Repair

It is inevitable that weathering and corrosion on pipes and vessels will sometimes mean that repairs are needed. Cast iron and steel pump casings, valves, water boxes and pipes that use sea water, such as at power stations, are subjected to the highly corrosive properties of the salt water and will often require repair at some point, before they become unusable. However, RPM can help. Our glass flake filled polyester/vinyl ester systems are particularly effective in providing long-term anti-corrosion protection for up to 15 years for such vessels. For other industries and surfaces, we are able to advise upon the most suitable coating for you, in order to get your equipment working at its most productive again.

Underground Storage Tanks

RPM Group specialise in the maintenance and repair of existing underground storage tanks, as well as being able to supply the ideal coating for new storage tanks. The conditions underground, coupled with the exact material being stored, mean we will be able to advise upon the most appropriate coating system for the tanks, to protect from biological and chemical weathering, as well as preventing leaks and cracks.

We use a UST SJ Laminate Lining for petrol, diesel and all bio fuel grades. This is made from vinyl ester resin, which offers excellent corrosion protection and lasts up to 15 years. Repairs can also be dealt with as part of the laminating process.

UST Double Skin Lining is used for hydrostatic, pressure or vacuum monitoring systems, as it provides a retro-fit leak monitoring system. It is formed by using a fuel resistant decoupling membrane, which minimises environmental damage risks and possible loss of product value. Speak to us today to find out more about our effective and efficient underground storage tank coating options.
