The Ovenden Earthmoving Company Ltd was established in 1973 and has grown year upon year into the successful company we know today.

We are pleased to boast a fantastic team of highly skilled and experienced machine operators who carry our fleet forward for a range of earth moving, crushing and recycling and coastal defence projects. Earth Moving

Here at Ovenden we are able to take on all earth moving projects with skill and ease. From simple to major road schemes such as the dualling of the A299 Thanet Way and the widening of the M2/A2 from Gillingham to Rochester our highly trained team ensures that all earth moving projects are completed within agreed time-frames and budgets causing the minimum disruption to the surrounding area. The safety of the public and our employees, alongside our commitment to the environment, is paramount and strict safety and environmental policies are followed as well as various risk assessment, staff awareness and training processes in place.

Crushing & Recycling

The process of recycling and land restoration is an area of our business that has grown significantly. As a result, we have invested heavily into creating our own landfill sites for inert wastes and recycling centres for the processing of demolition materials and soils in recycled aggregates and soils. We offer customers a complete crushing and screening services and boast a fantastic crusher fleet including the Tracked Mobile Primary Jaw Crushers, Tracked Mobile Secondary Cone Crushers, Tracked Mobile Vertical Shaft Impact Crushers and a Combined Shredder Crusher and Screener.

Coastal Defences

We have also invested heavily in specialist plant for coastal defence contracts. Our first coastal defence contract was carried out back in 1997 for the beach nourishment project at Sandwich Bay in Kent. This set the bench mark for our capabilities coastal defence capabilities we have since undertaken various contracts around the UK and Europe. We use our specialist plant of low ground pressure bulldozers, dumptrucks, wheeloaders, excavators and grapples, all of which run on biodegradable oils, to carry out various applications such as the construction of rock structures and beach renourishment schemes.

Past Project: Felixstowe South Flood Alleviation Scheme Suffolk

The Felixstow South Flood Alleviation Scheme in Suffolk required the demolition of existing concrete and timber groynes, the removal of existing armour and bedrock, the placing of received dredged shingle pumped ashore into a new beach profile and the construction of 21 new Rock Armour Groynes. Past Project: Belvedere Energy From Waste Project

This was a three month project where we were requested to break up and remove 12,000m3 of existing ground slabs and underground obstructions, crush and screen concrete for use in piling mat, re-excavate crushed concrete and stockpile on completion of piling and bulk excavation. Past Project: A228 Hoo Bypass Rochester Kent

The A228 Hoo Bypass project in Rochester, Kent, was a contract to the value of almost one million pounds. This project required us to perform the following tasks: new road construction, excavation, filling to form embankments, disposal of surplus materials, completion of formation, deposition and compaction of Type 1, and soiling to embankments. Past Project: Beach Renourishment in Abruzzo Italy

The beach renourishment project in Abruzzo, Italy, followed a successful contract we completed in Rimini two years previously. This project was awarded as a joint venture with SIDRA (Dredging International Subsidiary) and DRAVOSA (Van Oord Subsidiary) to spread approximately one million m3 of sand onto seven beaches in the Abruzzo area. For this four month operation we have sent four CAT D6 LGP bulldozers with skilled machine operators and full time mechanics to Italy.

Rochester Riverside Project, Rochester, Kent

This two year Riverside Project in Rochester Kent was contracted to the value of £2 million and features:


Nuttall Works: to break out 20,000m3 of hard stand areas and underground obstructions and crush for inclusion into permanent works, load, cart and place to fill 350,000m3 of dredged sand to be marine delivered into lagoons.


Van Oord Works: for plant and labour supply for the installation of band drains to shorten settlement time of the fill, construction of watertight lagoons for the reception of dredged materials as well as maintenance during cargo deliveries.

Past Project: Shoreham & Lancing Sea Defences

The Shoreham and Lancing Sea Defences project required the construction of 20 new rock armour groynes with 0.3-0.6 te core rock and 5-10 te armour rock alongside beach renourishment with shingle. Principles of this project features:


Demolition of timber groynes: 1640 lin m
Excavation of existing beach: 54,000m3
Placing of geotextile 25,000 m2
Placing of rock: 99,000
Beack renourishmenr: 300,000 m3

M2/A2 Widening Chatham to Rochester Kent

Costain Skanska Mowlem Joint contracted us to widen the M2/A2 Chatham to Rochester, Kent for a project to the value of £6 million. This three year project features: various cut and fill operations using dumptrucks and lorries, excavation for road box, formation trim, placing of capping and Type 1, excavation and lining of draining lagoons with geotextiles and bentomat, excavation and structural backfill to major structures, construction of reinforced earth embankments using geogrids and geotextiles, topsoiling and central reserve construction.

Red Rhino Crusher

Our fantastic Red Rhino Crusher 5000 series joins our fleet of crushers up to 55 tonnes. This tough and robust crusher weighs in at only 2750kg and measures only 1180mm wide making it ideal for use with projects in confined spaces. The Red Rhino Crusher is widely used for crushing redundant driveways and pavings on site to make way for new pavements. This method of reusing material on site creates huge savings.
