At Mini Gears our more than 45 years worth of experience and expertise is combined with the use of the latest high-tech CNC machine tools to produce the manufacturing excellence for which we are renowned. We utilise a large range of CNC machines in our 35,000 square foot manufacturing facility. Our range of modern equipment includes multitasking twin-chucked machine tools, semi-manned turning centres, high speed vertical machining centres, large CNC lathes that turn blanks up to 600mm, CNC gear cutting, hobbing and shaping machines, as well as CNC gear grinding and CNC checking up to 350mm. Further, we have the equipment to undertake milling, broaching, gear shaving, slotting of keyways and bore honing. And that’s not a complete list of our capabilities. At our fully equipped manufacturing facility in Stockport we're able to produce all types of gears ranging up to 600mm in diameter. This includes spur and helical gears, splined shafts, worms and wormwheels, sprockets and timing pulleys. Gear teeth may be finished to a very high tolerance using our state-of-the-art gear shaving and gear grinding technologies.
Gear Racks - for over 15 years Mini Gears have been supplying a number of industries with high quality gear racks for various applications, including stairlifts, drilling machines, oil and gas equipment and more. Today we produce over 700,000 metres per year. Gear racks may be supplied up to 3 metres in length with a pitch of up to 6DP (4mod) maximum.
Machined Parts - Over the last few years Mini Gears has expanded its machining capabilities and is now able to supply a large number of machined only components. Three Mazak 5-axis CNC 'one hit machining' centres allow us to offer a comprehensive range of precision engineered turned/milled components.

We have invested over £ 1 million in acquiring three Mazak Integrex 5-axis CNC machining centres. These enable high accuracy machining between multiple operations, which is critical for many of our clients. Complex machined gears and parts can now be expertly manufactured in a single set up from a solid bar or raw material casting / forging. Components may be turned, milled, drilled and gear cut all in a single set up, which eliminates the need for multiple fixtures and tools, and also reduces handling and waiting time. Naturally this lowers manufacturing costs -these savings are passed on to our customers so that they receive even greater value.
Gear grinding is a final finishing process that eradicates any deviation on a gear tooth. It is widely regarded as the most accurate and effective way of finishing a high precision gear, and is therefore often applied in automotive, marine, pumping and printing applications where low noise, high accuracy and high performance are all critical. Mini Gears has one of the most accurate machines available in the Hofler Helix 400K - this incorporates a grinding wheel that may be trimmed on a CNC machine to achieve a wide range of gear pitches.
Special gear forms can also be programmed and tested, which is useful for designing new parts or enhancing the performance of existing parts in industries such as Autosport.
All of the gears that we produce are measured using our own in-house Klingelnburg CNC gear testing machine. This modern piece of equipment enables highly accurate measurement of all tolerances and produces a graph that represents the finished grade of gear achieved. Through our sourcing division, Components Worldwide, we're able to provide a wide range of high quality castings in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Our partners offer a number casting processes, including investment casting, lost wax casting, gravity die casting, high pressure die casting and sand casting. Various post-casting processes may also be undertaken.
Components Worldwide are able to source a diverse range of forgings for all types of industries. These are usually delivered either part- or fully machined. Customers requiring high volume forgings can make the biggest savings from parts that are supplied fully machined. Through a trusted supplier we’re able to provide a range of fabrications, stampings and welded components for all types of applications and industries. This includes punched, formed, welded, drilled and tapped parts in mild steel, stainless steel and various aluminium alloys. Zinc plate and electro polish finishes are available.
