The Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery is a concept that originated in 2000 and is known worldwide. It was initially aimed solely at students but now also features an open category. The 2013 Prize is distributed to more than 1000 colleges and universities throughout the world and features an open category as well as the new ‘Patey Hats – Design Prize.’ Finalists will be chosen in July 2013 and will be introduced to major fashion, textile or interior designers to suit their chosen embroidery style. They will then have the unique opportunity to collaborate and produce incredible embroidery.

The world’s oldest gold lacemen, Hand & Lock, provides customers with fine quality, bespoke military goods. We have been providing hand-embroidered accoutrements to the military since the company was established in 1767 and continue to offer a wide range of embroidered items including: Gold Wire Badges, Gold and Silver Lace, Cord/ Fringe/ Russia Braid/ Tubular/ Sword and Dirk Knots, Flags/ Colours and Standards, Sashes/ Sword Belts and Aiguillettes, Epaulettes and Shoulder Cords, Pipe Banners and Music Stand Banners, and Drum Major Sashes/ Dress Cord and Tassels.

Royal Families

We have also supplied Royal families around the world with stunning embroidery. We provide a first class, reliable service and offer bespoke items that create a stunning and luxurious finish to a range of items such as badges or coats of arms. One of our recent projects included embroidery for the Royal Barge at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Many celebrities can be seen sporting our handiwork too. The likes of Michael Jackson’s iconic military style jacket or Marilyn Monroe’s sequin dress in ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ are particularly well-known examples of our work. Hand & Lock is proud to work closely with various leading fashion designers such as Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren and Vivienne Westwood. We work closely with design teams to create truly unique and extraordinary embroidery on a range of clothing and apparel. Our designs can be regularly seen on catwalks held during the year.

Couture

Our experience in the industry enables us to provide exquisite bespoke embroidery as well as short production runs. We provide services for a range of high-end men’s and women’s fashion designers, tailors, bridal and couture makers as well as for theatrical costumiers and high street fashion retailers. Our flexible approach and experience of embroidery techniques and materials enables us to bring our customer’s visions to life.

Monogramming

Hand & Lock creates excellent hand embroidered silk letters, or gold and silver wire monograms to adorn special commemorative cushions, wedding gown trains or indeed any material that is suitable for embroidery. Our incredibly talented and experienced team works closely with customers to design and produce fine, personalised gifts. Initials can be embroidered as individual motifs or directly onto the finished article.

Savile Row

Hand & Lock has a close relationship with world renowned tailors on Savile Row. For decades we have worked closely with tailors to design and deliver outstanding embroidered items that complement Savile Row’s prestigious, bespoke tailoring.

Dignitaries

We have also designed and produced fine garments for dignitaries located around the world. Our position and experience in the industry enables us to craft only the highest quality embroidery for some of the most distinguished events and occasions worldwide. One of our recent projects included the Lord Mayor of Westminster’s brand new Diamond Jubilee Robe which was crafted by our in-house tailors and embroiderers.
