Agrico UK is a leading producer of high grade seed potatoes. Our varieties are sold throughout the UK and to customers worldwide.
Agrico UK is a subsidiary of Agrico Holland, a Dutch farmer cooperative of over 800 members producing more than 310,000 tonnes of seed potatoes a year. We have offices in Poland, Canada, Italy and France, as well as a network of agents throughout the world.
Our UK division was set up in 1980 after years of successful trading in the British Isles. The company was formed initially to facilitate the increasing import of Dutch seed potatoes, but continuing success and our recognition of the ever-changing global market led us to the natural commitment of UK seed production. We are now one of the UK’s leading producers.
At Agrico, we believe in working closely with our growers so that we have a better understating of their individual seed-growing requirements. This allows us to provide advice and guidance that is specific to each grower, helping them with things like planting, production, harvesting, storage, handling and grading. Throughout these stages crop records are maintained within our systems, enabling us to monitor quality and provide feedback to individual growers.
Our knowledge of seed cultivation means we can work in unison with both our growers and our customers, offering strong agronomic support and assisting the development of future partnerships with key customers and markets.
Agrico is guided by the Scottish Seed Potato Classification Scheme (SSPCS), DEFRA and ‘Safe Haven’ technical requirements for the production of seed crops – you can be absolutely sure of the quality of our supplies.

We offer a wide choice of market-preferred seed varieties, each backed by local agronomic know-how. Our parent company, Agrico Holland, has the largest plant breeding programme in Europe, and is continually looking to develop and trial promising seedlines under local conditions. Varieties available in the UK include:

Agrico works in partnership with its growers to coordinate and plan efficient grading and dispatch of all loads, either from our own dedicated facilities at Castleton or from farm-based grading facilities. At Agrico we devote the greatest possible attention to storage, packaging and distribution – by ship, lorry or train.
Agrico has been the leading importer of Dutch seed potatoes to the UK since establishment in 1980. Despite the strength of local varieties, Dutch seed is sometimes preferred because:

At our Castleton facility we have capacity for storing and grading between 6000 and 11,000mts every year. Up to 4000mts can be held in cold storage, with the rest kept at ambient temperatures.
In recent years, Agrico UK has invested heavily in improving its storage and handling facilities. In 2006 we constructed a new insulated store to give added set-down space for finished products and to allow for indoor loading, and in 2007 we installed an additional refrigeration unit which almost doubled our cold store capacity. We also put in place a letter box system to improve ventilation and cure potatoes on intake.
Other upgrades and additions include a new palletizing and bagging system, which has helped us speed up the packing process whilst complying with current HSE regulations.
Potato seed varieties graded on site include Estima, Marfona, Maris Peer, Markies, Romano, Rudolph and Sante.
