Description

The Hoveton Wetlands Restoration project aims to deliver the restoration of Hoveton Great Broad and Hudson's Bay. This will be achieved through a combination of sediment removal and bio manipulation, restoring them to favourable condition / good ecological status. This has been in a phased approach and this is the third stage.

This project is part of the Bure LIFE Project (LIFE14 NAT/UK/000054) which is financially supported by LIFE, a financial instrument of the European Community. It is also supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Natural England (NE) require a contractor to finish the mechanical movement of sediment from the bed of Hoveton Great Broad and Hudson's Bay, and to achieve an average minimum depth of 1.1m. The sediment moved is now to be used to back fill the already existing areas created by the already 'in place' geo tubes. Two of the in places tubes will also need some smaller geobags filled with sediment and placed on top where they are currently sitting too low in the water. The tubes/bags will then need to be capped with fen vegetation won from another area (already identified) to create new fen habitat.

Nesting birds, starts to happen from April/May onwards so by August to September birds will have stopped nesting. Therefore, NE would allow works to start at the beginning of October 2019 and would need to be finished by 20th Dec 2019.
