Description

Highways England are looking to identify potential suppliers who are able to supply air quality monitoring units for the A38 Saltash tunnel. The devices must be able to detect, monitor and report:

o PM2.5 Diesel Particulate

o CO (Carbon Monoxide)

o NO (Nitrogen oxide)

o SO2 (Sulphur Dioxide)

Background: There is a need to evaluate the potential for safe working within a live tunnel bore thus reducing the impact of the works on the adjacent local network and residents. The data gathered will be used to assess whether live working is a viable option and could also be extremely valuable for the feasibility and design of the tunnel ventilation system which is due to be refurbished. The initial monitoring project is envisaged to be short term; with installation and monitoring for a minimum of 6 months prior to commencement of site works in the tunnel in mid 2022. The monitoring equipment will be self-contained and not interfaced with any HE systems or tunnel equipment. It should be noted that should live working be a viable option and be taken by the works contractor, any subsequent monitoring during the tunnel works itself, is expected to be provided by the works contractor.

In order to determine procurement options for the next stage of the project, Highways England needs to identify potential suppliers in the market who can fulfil our requirement which will allow us to plan a route to market.
