Birmingham City Council Public Health is looking to commission an organisation to develop a Covid-19 Community 'Champion' Programme that is targeted at children and young people (under 25s) with the aim for them to learn how to 'stay safe' and to empower them to offer advice to their peers and family.
Up until now, the COVID-19 Community Champion programme in Birmingham has been primarily for adults. This has been marketed in various ways, and the Covid Champions are asked to read a code of conduct before signing up. Once signed up, we host webinars, information sessions, and send them collateral that includes the latest COVID-19 information, guidance and news. Our ask of them is to pass on this information to their communities (via social media, telephone trees, zoom calls etc). The Covid Champions are often Councillors, MPs, faith leaders, organisations from the charity sector, or even just the general public.
We understand that the ask on children may be slightly different, and we feel a code of conduct would not be appropriate. This offer is an opportunity for school aged children to learn how to 'stay safe' and to empower them to offer advice to their peers and family. The aim is:
? Maximise your networks to access key partners/youth boards who work with CYP to help spread key message.
? Work collaboratively and co-produce tailored and targeted materials for this age group to support COVID-19 messaging, such as
o What is coronavirus and why is it important to stay safe?
o How to stay safe:
? Hands Face Space
? Use of masks and hand sanitizer
? Staying safe in different environments- home & school
o Isolation & testing
o Vaccination
o Mental health and wellbeing
? Ensure that the messaging and content/materials will be available and accessible for a wide range of different groups
? Ensure an equitable representation of secondary schools across Birmingham
? Products to be shared with Birmingham City Council Public Health
The contract will run from March 2021 until Spring 2021.
