Description

Birmingham is a hugely diverse city. Birmingham City Council recognises that different black and minority ethnic (BAME), disabled and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual (LGBT) communities may have specific concerns or issues resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic coupled with a limited access to the relevant official information and guidance. We are keen to support all our local citizens to protect their health

using national Government guidance (see https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus ) and maintain their wellbeing during this challenging period.

Public Health Division are inviting local grass roots organisations (separately, or as part of a consortium/ consortia) that work with BAME, disabled and LGBT communities to develop a communication and engagement campaign which seeks to:

- Further understand specific issues around Covid 19 faced by particular BAME, disabled and LGBT communities

- Work with Public Health to develop appropriate messages to tackle the spread of Covid 19 and provide the most appropriate wellbeing advice

- Use effective and appropriate culturally sensitive methods, which do not rely on face to face engagement, to get these messages out into these communities.

The communities we would like you to work with are:

Community 1: BAME communities

We would like organisations to focus on:

1. Pakistani community

2. Other South-Asian communities

3. Eastern European, including Polish community

4. Roma Gypsy communities

5. Migrant, asylum seekers and refugee communities

6. Black Afro-Caribbean community

Community 2: Disabled communities

We would like organisations to focus on:

1. Deaf and hard of hearing community

2. Blind and sight impaired community

3. People with learning disabilities.

Community 3: LGBT communities

We would like organisations to focus on all four groups within the LGBT community.
