Products

Formed in 1988, Smyth Composites Ltd has become one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) flat sheet products. In 25 years of trading we’ve established a solid reputation for quality materials and a first class service, and we’ve become known not just to UK companies but to those throughout Europe, the Middle East and the USA.    From our 38,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Carnoustie we supply dozens of different GRP products to customers far and wide. We have a team of 34 people (most of which have been in the business for more than eight years) working together to develop and produce top quality materials for use in a wide range of applications.    We have a longstanding and loyal customer base which we believe to be a testament to our commitment to quality and service. Our aim is to ensure complete customer satisfaction and to continually improve our standards in every possible area.   Some of our GRP products are detailed in the sections below. If you would like to find out more, please head over to the Smyth Composites website or simply get in touch using the contact details provided at the top of this page.

GRP Anti-Slip Stair Treads & Noses

Our GRP anti-slip stair treads and noses are designed to improve safety on worn, slippery or uneven steps. They can be quickly and easily installed using an adhesive or a mechanical fixing, and once in place they offer a robust, durable and extremely slip-resistant solution that helps to prevent accidents. GRP stair treads and noses are available in several different RAL colours (with high-visibility yellow or even luminescent colours added to the edges), and with various levels/grades of slip-resistance. They are non-corrosive, non-conductive and are exceptionally hardwearing. Find out more by visiting Smyth Composites online.

GRP Anti-Slip Flooring

GRP anti-slip flooring has been used in industrial environments for some time, but it’s now becoming increasingly common in public places. You can often see it on railway platforms, around swimming pools or in airport terminals. Wherever it’s used, the amount of accidents caused by slippery, worn or uneven surfaces tends to be greatly reduced.

To produce GRP anti-slip flooring we use various types and grades of grit – the type chosen depends on where the flooring will be used and for what purpose. Ultra-fine grits, for example, will be applied in swimming pool environments, while courser grits will be used mainly around oily machinery. You can find out more about the uses and benefits of GRP anti-slip flooring by visiting Smyth Composites online.

GRP Impact Resistant, Anti-Vandal Glazing

Fybaglaze is an impact-resistant, anti-vandal GRP glazing manufactured from high quality resins and fibreglass. This material is virtually indestructible; it is highly resistant to impact, wind loading, shock and manual attack. Despite this hardwearing performance, Fybaglaze maintains an aesthetic appearance ideal for all sorts of environments. It’s typically found in schools, bus shelters, stairwells and fire doors, but also commonly used for security screens, balcony panels and factory rooflights. Fybaglaze is manufactured to customer requirements from 3mm upwards or supplied from stock in sheets measuring 8 x 4ft.

GRP Sandwich Panels (Fybacore)

Fybacore is manufactured from multiple layers of GRP panels press bonded together to form an attractive yet highly functional cladding or infill material ideal for building projects. Core materials can include Styrofoam, polyurethane foam, plywood, OSB or phenolic foam in almost any combination. Panels are tailored to customer specifications in terms of dimensions, colour, surface texture, edge detail and fire performance. For more information, please head over to our website or get in touch using the contact details provided above.

GRP Solid Colour Panels (Fybatex)

Fybatex panels combine hundreds of thousands of glass strands with pigmented thermoset UV resins to produce an incredibly strong and durable panel with an attractive outward appearance. They can be made in any BS or RAL colour and may have a variety or combination of surface finishes, including UV smooth, deep crinkle, leatherette, matt and woodgrain (examples can be found on the Smyth Composites website). Fybatex panels have a high strength to weight ratio, making them ideal for use as soffit panels, door facings, kick plates, balcony panels, security screens and curtain walling.

GRP Specialist Products

GRP flat plate can be used in an almost infinite number of applications, and it can be made to your exact requirements for strength, thickness, fire resistance, chemical resistance and other physical characteristics. Types of plate offered include:

  • Standard Plate – Ideal for things like cable tray covers, deflection boards, manhole covers, etc.
  • High Strength Plate – Reinforced with woven mats of varying weights and strand thicknesses.
  • Chemical Resistant Plate – Made with special resin systems such as Vinyl, Ester, Epoxy and Atlac in order to resist highly toxic and acidic chemicals.
  • Shaped/Angled Plate – Ideal for roof trims, cable trays, access ducting and troughs.
  • RF Transparent Plate – Allows unhindered passage of micro and radio waves.

GRPH Phenolic Products (Phenclad)

Phenclad is a high performance fire panel made with GRP sheets that consist mainly of cured phenolic resin and glass fibre. It is one of the most effective fire-resistant sheet materials on the market, producing relatively small quantities of smoke and toxic fumes when exposed to fire and retaining excellent physical properties at high temperatures. Phenclad panels are tested and certified for use in high risk environments such as offshore installations, underground railways, road tunnels and construction sites.  Find out more about the advantages of Phenclad by visiting Smyth Composites online.

RhinoZone Container Flooring

RhinoZone is an innovative container flooring system suitable for installation in new and used containers. It was developed after we were approached by one of the shipping industry’s leading consultants to come up with a flooring solution that could outperform and outlast the conventional hardwood ply systems. We used our experience in the production of GRP sheeting to make something that was lighter, stronger, easier to clean, more durable and more cost-effective over time than anything else on the market – the result was RhinoZone, a container flooring system that passes all the ISO tests and dramatically reduces container ‘downtime’ and cost of repairs.
