Products

We provide advanced fastener technology combined with efficient process automation, supplying connecting elements, sorting and feeding units, and processing tools as well as a consultation service that includes engineering support throughout the project cycle and beyond. As a pioneer in mechanically joined fastener technology, we develop pierce nuts and studs for fastening to sheet metal parts by a riveting process. As a single source system supplier, we also provide consultation and manufacture automated feeding equipment customised to specific client requirements. We hold more than 450 patents and develop an average of 20 new products every year. Our products are used extensively in the automobile, construction fittings and appliance industries as well as many others. Use of our fasteners and integrated one-step fastening can reduce costs by as much as 30% over conventional weld fastenings because process costs are streamlined by our systems. As our fastening process causes no cracking or heat damage to the sheet metal, improved quality is another strong advantage of our products. We have the largest product range of its type in Europe, and we can supply a custom-tailored solution for each client's specific needs.

The Advantages

The mechanical joining technology behind Profil fasteners enables them to be used in a variety of materials and enhances quality processes. Some of the materials Profil fasteners can be used with are:

  • Steel and high strength steel
  • Sandwich, pre-painted and surface coated panels
  • Aluminium
  • Magnesium

The use of Profil fasteners results in optimal economical efficiency, potentially resulting in a savings of as much as 30% over conventional joining procedures such as weld nuts. This is because initial investment costs for Profil systems are lower than the investment expenses for thermal procedures, and there are no follow-up work costs. Additionally, several expenditures such as temporary storage requirements, in-plant transport, welding and associated logistics and quality assurance measures are either eliminated completely or significantly reduced when using Profil fasteners.

The superior quality of the finished Profil fastening compared to that of a conventional fastening speaks for itself. Profil fasteners result in fastenings that feature highly accurate positioning with high dynamic and static stability. There is no damage or functional impairment to components such as weld splatters. Finally, there are no waste materials or environmental effects as a result of the process.

Rivet Studs - Conical

SBK rivet studs are especially suitable for shearing loads and greater panel thicknesses. We can produce special designs tailored specifically to the client's application requirements.

Rivet Studs - With Skirt

Our new Profil Rivet Stud NBR, installed in a pre-pierced and pre-formed hole in sheet metal, forms a joint capable of withstanding high dynamic and static loading.  Thanks to the riveting action of the skirt, no external forces that could create stress or weaknesses are exerted on the sheet metal as only the stud skirt material is displaced. This makes the NBR rivet stud suitable for a wide range of sheet metal thicknesses starting as thin as 0.6 mm.

The advantages of the NBR Rivet Stud include:

  • Lower riveting force required than for SBK/SBF
  • No thread is directly under the head; the bolt is positively locked in the sheet metal
  • Stepped / centering / shoulder bolts possible
  • Bolts greater than 50 mm in length may be used
  • High forces: push out, torque out, pull through achievable

As we are a full system supplier, we can also provide the processing technology that enables automatic installation of rivet studs under a press.

Pierce Studs

We offer three types of Pierce Studs:

  • SBF Pierce stud with flange
  • SZB Ball pin
  • SBF Ball pin with flange

The SBF pierce stud with flange features one-step and pre-punched processing.

The SZB ball pin pierce stud is designed for bearing positions of high pressure and tensile loads applied laterally to the longitudinal axis. Riveted into pre-punched sheet metal moulds, the SZB forms a connection that has a high load bearing capacity in push and pull direction as well as diagonally to the bolt's longitudinal axis. The SZB is particularly suitable for thick-walled sheet metal components.

Several special models have been developed that feature a bigger ball or longer shaft, or a stop bolt that can be put on the standard ball pin.

We can provide the suitable processing technology for a full system guaranteeing an excelling price / performance ratio.

The SBF ball pin with flange, with its one-step automatic punching installation, withstands the highest tensile and pressure loads lateral to the longitudinal axis. This makes it suitable for use with thin sheet metal panels.

Pierce Nuts

The UM rectangular pierce nut offers an excellent cost-benefit ratio with one-step processing installation and is suitability for quasi-static loads.

The HI (High Integrated) rectangular pierce nut, pierced and fixed into the sheet metal with one step, exerts a high clamping force. It is suitable for use with thin sheet metals and medium loads. We offer a complete high performance system including the processing technology for automatically installation of the nuts under a press.

The HI pierce nut is suitable for sheet metal thicknesses from 0.7 mm up to 2.00 mm, and can be installed in flat sheet metal plates with no recess requirement. It is especially suitable for thin-walled components and pre-coated materials. It offers a high clamp force while spreading the load across the bearing surface with no damage to the sheet metal. The nut is positively locked into the sheet metal with no movement when bolted.

Fully automatic processing with speeds up to 80 strokes per minute in power presses and forming dies is achievable.

Press-In Studs

The Profil EBF press-in stud with flange offers the highest impact, static and dynamic load capacity in a wide variety of materials and metal thicknesses. Many kinds of surface coatings can be used as there is no bolt deformation during riveting.

Press-in Nuts

The Profil RSU round press-in nut features one-step installation and prepunched processing. Suitable for use with many types of nut surface coatings, there is no deformation of the nut during the riveting process. The RSU round press-in nut is suitable for impact, static and dynamic loads.

Special Fasteners

We offer a range of special fasteners suitable for a variety of applications.

SBF rest stud with flange, with one-step installation processing, features a high dynamic load capacity in the pull / push direction;

SBF special pierce stud with flange, with spacer and centering function, capable of high dynamic loads in pull / push direction;

KSB earthing pierce stud with screw-on nut, featuring one-step installation and reproducible, constant lowest electrical resistance;

NBR special skirted rivet stud has a centering function, is suited to a large variety of materials and metal thicknesses, and is appropriate for a wide range of impact, static and dynamic loading factors;

RSN special round, narrow bodied rivet cap nut handles impact, static and dynamic loads and offers protection against substance penetration yet requires little space;

RSN special round rivet cap nut, designed to withstand high pull-through forces and protect against substance penetration, and suited to a wide range of impact, dynamic and static loading.

Installation Tooling

Usually integrated in the forming dies, pierce heads ensure the insertion of the fastener into the sheet metal component in time with the press cycle. Integrated sensors in the pierce heads, combined with our Profil sorting and feeding technology, assures high process safety as well as high operation speed. We can provide solutions for manual as well as automatic fastener feeding.

The Profil complete system in the press shop comprises a sheet metal coil, Profil fasteners fed into a sorting and feeding unit, progression tool with pierce heads, press and press control, all working in combination to produce the finished sheet metal part.

Feeding Units

Sorting and feeding units process fasteners during automatic manufacturing, positioning the fasteners and feeding them into the piece head. Controlled insertion of the fastener into the sheet metal component is ensured by means of an integrated electronic control unit based on a modern SPS, which also provides a communications interface with the press control.

A feeding unit is modular, consisting of a sorting unit, feeding unit and switch cabinet.  The  modularity of the design enables adaptation of the units to specific client requirements.
