Underfloor Lifting

Here at Mechan Ltd, we are pleased to offer fantastic underfloor lifting systems that have been expertly designed to lift/lower complete trains or single cars safely and efficiently. There are two types of lifting system available:

• Cantilever: this type of lifting system enables bogies to be moved beneath the lifted rail car or train and is ideal for use in areas where space is limited.
• Column: this type of lifting system enables components or bogies to be replaced directly behind it.

Bogie Drops

We are also pleased to offer premium quality bogie drop systems and wheel drop systems.

• Bogie Drop Systems: these systems enable operators to remove and replace complete bogies, wheelsets and undercar equipment from coupled rail vehicles safely and efficiently. Our bogie drops feature either a hydraulic scissor type lifting mechanism or a screw jack lifting system.
• Wheel Drop Systems: these systems enable users to remove and replace wheelsets from coupled rail vehicles. They are available as tabletop systems or with pit continuation to enable full access under the bogie.

Bogie Test

Mechan Ltd manufactures and supplies robust and reliable bogie test machines/ bogie presses that have been expertly designed and created to set up bogies after build, repair or refurbishment processes. These fantastic test machines apply weight to the bogie in order to mimic the loads imposed by the rail vehicle and to settle the suspension.

Our bogie presses can feature a range of options, including:

• Single pressing cylinder with guided spreader beam
• Twin pressing cylinders with independent load application
• Load measurement by hydraulic pressure or solid state load cells
• Wheel load measurement to check load distribution
• Bogie ride height measurement

Under Car Handling

Our under car handling systems have been designed and manufactured to work alongside rail jack lifting systems – specifically in depots with flat floors. They feature twin staggered wheels which are positioned at the front and the rear, four driving wheels and two drive units.

Other features include:

• Powered lift table: lifts, tips, rotates and traverses.
• Traction motor removal unit: featuring an adjustable top.
• Powered lift table: featuring dual mode workshop and rail wheels.
• Manual hydraulic unit: with a wide stable leg arrangement and fitted with a pendolino battery box adaptor.
• Undercar manipulator: available with a range of adaptors.

Bogie Handling

Mechan Ltd supplies top quality, reliable bogie handling equipment.

• Bogie Frame Rotators: these units lift and rotate bogies during maintenance and refurbishment. They feature rotating faceplates on the front of the lifting carriages and modified feet to ensure a stable base for work to be carried out safely.
• Bogie Turntables: these units are used to assist with the transfer of bogies between roads within maintenance facilities. Most units are fitted with double-cross rails and are operated manually or electrically. These turntables are manufactured from heavy steel material grade S275 (EN10025).

Bogie Storage

Mechan Ltd also supplies a wide range of equipment for stacking, lifting and storing bogies, wheelsets, engines and associated equipment.

Examples include:

• Bogie Stands: supported on wheel treads to protect the flanges and paint work on bogie frames.
• Low Level Stands: these units can be free standing or bolted down.
• High Level Stands: these units usually support the bogie wheels at heights of approximately 1,000mm. They can be bolted to a concrete floor or supplied with castors for mobility.
• One-piece Bogie Stacking Frames: featuring self-locating plates for safe storage of bogies.
• Wheelset Lifting Beams: can be attached to cranes and forklift trucks.
