IJM Timber Engineering was established in 1965 and through the vision of its founder pioneered the use of timber frame construction in Ireland. From the onset, it was recognised that timber frame contained many key advantages over other emerging technologies of the time most notably that it was thermally efficient and as it being an off-site construction method that very high accuracies would be achieved leading to enormous time savings on site.

From our beginnings at a custom built 10 acre facility in Monaghan the business has added significant product ranges to the original timber frame walls thorough the introduction of prefabricated first generation floor cassettes and pre-fabricated roof trusses. With over 70% of the population of the developed world living in timber frame construction it is no wonder that we have seen timber frame grow to 27% of housing in Ireland.   In line with this growth we have engaged in continuous expansion and upgrading and have a second state of the art facility in Castlecomer in Kilkenny as well as a design office in Dundalk, Co. Louth.

Over the last 5 decades IJM has been involved in every type of build project imaginable from Single Occupancy Dwellings Timber frame, Large Scale Timber frame Residential Developments, 5 Storey high Timber frame Apartments, Penthouses, Timber frame Schools, Timber frame Nursing Homes, Timber frame Crèches, Timber frame Hospitals, Timber frame Hotels, Timber frame Offices, Timber frame Student Accommodation, Log Cabins and Timber frame commercial premises. These buildings have been constructed by IJM in Ireland as well as exported to England, Scotland & Wales, Isle of Man, Saudi Arabia, Germany and the United States

In recognition of the benefits of off-site construction we have been awarded numerous awards including being ISO accredited, PEFC accredited and have achieved the Q Mark Standard. We also achieved the “Excellence through People” accolade which reflected our ethos to invest heavily in developing our human resources and Team Spirit.

Today all IJM houses are designed using the very latest generation Computer Aided Design Software allowing fully 3 dimensional visualizations and these designs are the linked through Automated Manufacturing processes ensuring the most accurately designed and manufactured buildings available on the market today.

Since the advent of the Building Regulations in 1990 we have seen a continuous steady improvement in the Insulation Standards required for new dwellings now culminating in the new Building Energy Rating for all dwellings and which will require further improvements in building standards in the years to come.

Over the years though investment in new technologies has meant that we have embraced the ethos of “Modern Methods of Construction” and we offer many third and fourth generation technologies as well as the more familiar “Traditional@ timber frame technologies. With patented Open House and Ecobuilt and our newest AirTek and Acoustoifloor technology IJM has grown to be one of the leading timber frame companies in the World today.

Despite the large growth over the years IJM remains a family company which is now under the stewardship of the second generation of the McCaughey family.

Off-Site Manufacture

Our off-site, timber frame manufacture includes many different processes which all result in the high quality finished products. First, the design team will utilise their own expertise, as well as top of the range software to produce a set of plans for your structure. These plans are then uploaded to an automated production line system and manufactured to exacting standards. It is also worth noting that we test all of raw timber to guarantee that every product is using the best materials possible.
