Founded in 1986 by Ian Holdgate, we are specialist providers of structural and civil engineering design services to the construction industry in the UK and overseas. Our experience includes a wide range of industrial and commercial design projects. We provide creative, practical and high quality design solutions for any size and type of building project, from modest home extensions or structural alterations to large-scale industrial developments.  From our head office in a converted 17th century farmhouse and barn in Bingley, West Yorkshire, our professional engineers perform a significant amount of work for domestic clients, including structural surveys for building projects and homes as well as new house builds. We welcome small or domestic projects with the same enthusiasm and attention to detail that we give to large scale commercial projects. Domestic Surveys

Our response to domestic clients is rapid and cost effective, with an efficient approach that features free telephone quotations and the completion of the domestic survey and report within two working days where possible. Buying a home is a significant financial and emotional investment. A good domestic survey can help you make an informed decision with regard to purchase price and any renovation or required repairs. Commercial Surveys

Commercial surveys are designed to discover and inform potential purchasers of any structural or maintenance problems associated with commercial premises. This can be of especially vital importance to "fully repairing lease" purchasers, who without the protection of a professional commercial survey may find themselves liable for expensive repairs of existing defects as a term of their lease. We offer a comprehensive Survey and Report service for any form of commercial premises, from shop units and office blocks to department stores and industrial developments.

Industrial Development

With industrial development experience in many industries including general manufacturing, warehousing, agriculture, foundries and glass production, we can provide a fully comprehensive industrial development design service. Our expertise gives us the versatility to design everything from steel-framed industrial units through to supports and gantries for machinery and equipment. We have also been involved in the design and construction of several health centres, as well as the extension of many others. Many times these facilities are on 'brown field' sites which require specialist foundation solutions. We also focus on the structural engineering aspects of educational institutions, having been involved with projects throughout the education spectrum from nurseries through to higher education and universities as well as museums.

Retail Units

Retail outlets occasionally need layout changes to facilitate modern marketing techniques and practices. We have extensive experience in finding the best solutions for optimising sales revenue for a minimum expenditure of capital.  We can design structural alterations to meet any challenges, including a continued trading facility so that customer inconvenience and disruptions to operations and access are kept to a minimum.

Redevelopment and Conversion of Existing Buildings

We have comprehensive experience in the creative and cost-effective conversion of redundant buildings such as cinemas or mills into new apartments, retail units or offices. We excel in designing and planning conversions that are sympathetic to the original structure, and we use construction materials and techniques that are in keeping with the aesthetics of the original building to the greatest possible extent.

Specific Materials Design

As well as having specialist expertise in the conventional building materials such as steel, timber, concrete, masonry and stone, we also work with non-conventional building materials including structural glass, plastic, aluminium, titanium, foam panels, composites, etc.

Infrastructure

Our Civil Engineering department has comprehensive experience in designing infrastructure works including highways and roads, pumping stations and drainage systems for surface water control, bridges, earthworks and retaining walls. We cover all aspects of infrastructure design and planning, including details such as pavement markings and minimum sight distance checks for roadway design; geometric and hydraulic relationship analysis and attenuation calculation for sewer systems; flood risk assessments, site layouts and site levels for developments as well as all applicable statutory approvals.
