Products

G&A Moulding Technology is a fully independent and impartial company that offers support, training and advisory services for the injection moulding industry. To ensure the very best levels of support, G&A employs a highly skilled and dedicated team headed by one of the most experienced professionals in the industry, John Goff CEnd FIMMM.
Our services may be delivered in-situ or at our very own premises in Peterborough. They include;

  • Trouble shooting and process development
  • Mould and product design recommendations
  • Project management
  • Mould proving/debugging
  • PDQ (Pre-Mould Delivery Qualifications) trials
  • Moldflow analysis
  • Mould capability trials
  • Pre-production runs and mould validation
  • Process and product development
  • Process optimisation through training and consultancy
  • Productivity improvements
  • Expert witness services

At G&A, we believe that a great deal of the problems encountered in the injection moulding industry stem from either the inevitable pressures of the production environment or a limited understanding of the subject.

We know that there’s very rarely enough time and resources to devote to solving production issues which may be causing poor profitability. That’s why we set up G&A; to provide solutions where they are needed and to help our clients get the most out of their production processes. Our approach to problem solving is founded on the technical competence and considerable application experience of our staff together with the company founder, John Goff.

John Goff, G&A’s operations director and team leader, has been involved in the injection moulding industry for the past four decades, covering all aspects from mould making and design to process control, optimisation, analysis and assessment. John was also the youngest person to be awarded the Fellowship of the Plastics & Rubber Institute in 1980.

Plastics Training

G&A Moulding Technology offers a range of training courses designed to improve productivity through the more effective use of production time, the more appropriate choice of parts, and the reduction of cycle time. We believe that through correct education and a greater understanding of the moulding process, staff can contribute far more towards overall production. In fact, performance reviews show a significant increase in efficiency and a significant reduction in component costs when optimisation exercises are implemented.

As well as a full schedule of standard courses, G&A can also offer tailor-made courses that cover everything from basic concepts to advanced processing. Assessment papers can be provided to ensure all learning outcomes realised, thereby ensuring that our customers’ expectations are fully met. Our courses are mostly practical, with “hands-on” work forming two-thirds of the content. Both the syllabus and the theoretical content of each course provide the most practical support for this approach.

All courses are given by trained professionals with many years experience in the injection moulding industry.

Tailor Made Courses

Our standard courses are scheduled throughout the year and are held at our very own dedicated facility in Peterborough. They may also be conducted on-site at your premises if required. As well as a full roster of standard courses, G&A are also able to offer bespoke courses that suit the individual needs and productivity objectives of our clients. Tailor-made courses may be taken either at our facility in Peterborough or on-site.

Fundamentals of Injection Moulding

This is a four day course that has been put together for technical and non-technical personnel who are involved in the production of thermoplastic injection moulded components. 'Fundamentals of Injection Moulding' is a hands-on course which covers the various concepts of injection moulding, including moulding machine construction, process parameter selection, mould temperature control and its effects, material handling, and the use of additives. As well being ideal for production, development and design engineers, this course is well-suited for sales, marketing, quality production control and production administration personnel.

Modular Training – Modules One, Two and Three

Our three modular training courses cover melt preparation and plasticisation, process control and materials technology respectively. Each module lasts three days. They are designed specifically for process technicians who need to more fully understand the aspects of process stability, part quality and productivity, as well as the causes of various problems associated with injection moulding processes. We recommend that the modules be taken consecutively and that a two month gap is allowed between each for consolidation and project work. Upon completion, process technicians can progress to our 'Process Optimisation' course if required, and can also attend our 'Materials Technology II' course for a more in-depth understanding.

Process Optimisation Course

G&A’s 'Process Optimisation' course is suited for more experienced process technicians and engineers who undertake mould tool trialling and troubleshooting in order to improve production efficiency. The course takes a systematic approach, breaking down the moulding cycle into various elements and analysing the various ways in which they can be optimised. It also includes three complete optimisation exercises that provide a greater understanding of all the methods and concepts discussed during the training.

Mould Design Course

This is a three day course in which design engineers, tool makers and process engineers can gain a comprehensive understanding of the basic rudiments of mould design. The Mould Design Course covers:

  • Mould Types/Selection
  • Mould Cooling
  • Feed Systems
  • Cycle Times
  • Two-Plate/Multi-Plate and Runnerless Moulds
  • Hot Runner Systems
  • Undercut/Unscrewing Moulds
  • Standardised Components
  • Prototyping Techniques
  • Use of CAE Technologies

Please visit our website for further information.

Hot Runner Technology I and II

'Hot Runner Technology' is just one of the many courses made available by G&A Moulding Technology. In this course we discuss how hot runner technology can significantly improve mould performance.

Process Optimisation Software

The team at G&A Moulding Technology have developed a unique step-by-step procedure for optimising injection moulding processes and achieving optimum quality products in a greatly reduced cycle time. Pro-Op™ is a system designed to attain the most consistent, repeatable parts manufacture, improving yield through the reduction of scrap levels, the eradication of part quality issues, and the increase of moulding machine production running hours. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more about this innovative optimisation software.

Press

G&A Moulding Technology regularly feature in relevant industry brochures, magazines and other periodicals. You can take a look at some of the articles we’ve featured in by visiting the Press page of our website. All articles are available in Pdf format for download.

Metrology and Moulding Course

Our Metrology and Moulding course aims to bring together two aspects of mechanical design, providing an overview of best practice and explaining the interaction of each aspect. The moulding aspect of the course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of injection moulding and incorporates hands-on moulding exercises using a range of materials. Meanwhile, the measurement aspect covers the basic principles of metrology, explaining the relationship between measurement and 2D drawing, GD&T and tolerance analysis. The course also covers automated measurement systems.

Mould Design Course

Our ‘Mould Design’ course covers all the basic principles of mould design. We discuss the important features with respect to injection moulding, the selection of steel types, the different mould cooling processes, and also explain the ins and outs of feed system technology. Other topics include;
  • The optimisation of mould performance
  • Two-plate mould design
  • Multi-plate mould design
  • Runnerless moulds and hot runner system optimisation
  • Undercut/unscrewing moulds
  • Standardised components
  • Prototyping techniques
  • Use of CAE technology
  • Flow characteristics of thermoplastic materials.
