Products

EWL WaterJet is a family run business with over 30 years of experience in the fabrication and engineering industry. We draw upon the expertise of our engineers and utilise state-of-the-art fabrication facilities to produce precision components and parts of the very highest quality. Twin headed abrasive water jet and pure water jet cutting facilities allow us to accurately cut materials that are up to 200mm thick. We employ the latest CAD software to guarantee the accuracy of profiles and to maximise the utilisation of materials during nesting. Water jet cutting is a flexible fabrication process that provides a clean, crisp and highly precise cut, often with a burr free finish. In addition to water jet cutting, EWL offers a complete range of standard fabrication services, including machining, polishing and coating. We appreciate the need for a supplier that can offer a one stop shop service, which is why we continually invest in the latest engineering and fabrication facilities so that we can provide a comprehensive service. We’re strategically located in the heart of Cheshire, close to both the M6 and the M56 motorways, which means can we supply a UK and Europe wide customer base with first class finished parts. If you would like to find out more about EWL and the services that we offer, be sure to visit the EWL WaterJet website. And, if you have any queries regarding our fabrication capabilities, do not hesitate to get in touch - we’re always happy to answer your questions with the best advice and guidance.

Water Jet Cutting: How it Works

When you pressurise any standard house water from 50psi up to 52,000 psi and force it through a very small hole faster than the speed of sound, a cutting jet is created that will find its way through almost any material. It’s no real surprise then that Water Jet Cutting is one of the fastest growing engineering techniques in the world. We use this process to cut virtually any shape, in any material, including steel and even bullet proof glass. EWL employs two water cutting systems: "Abrasive", where very find sand is added to the pressurised water to cut through harder materials, and "Pure Water", which is used to cut through softer materials such as rubber, foam, and carpets etc.

Benefits of Water Jet Cutting

The benefits of water jet cutting are numerous. First and foremost, it is an extremely versatile process. Abrasive systems can cut virtually any material in any shape up to 200mm thick. Moreover, this can be done without heat input, warping, distorting and other HAZs associated with laser and plasma cutting. Another reason for its success is the quality of cuts that it offers -water jet cutting provides a smooth, crisp cut, often with a burr-free finish, unlike laser and plasma processes which can leave sharp burrs and slag. It’s highly accurate too: tight tolerances of less than +/-0.1mm can be achieved. And the advantages do not stop there. It’s faster, it produces less waste, and it is therefore far more economical than other processes.

Fabrication and Welding Services at EWL

Water jet cutting is just one of the fabrication services that EWL offers. The profiles that we cut may also undergo secondary processes such as machining, forming, surface finishing, welding and even heat treating. Few other water jet cutting companies can offer complete part production like we do. So don't go around the houses to source other subcontractors when you have it all done in one convenient place. You'll save time, money, and a lot of effort. As well as water jet cutting, we have modern facilities for press brake bending, guillotining, sawing, rolling, TIG welding, MIG welding, Arc welding, coded pipe welding, metal polishing, anodising, powder coating, zinc plating, heat treating, milling, turning, tapping and drilling.

Pipe Work at EWL

EWL also fabricates and installs pipework, from small replacements and repairs to 1000 meter pipeline systems. We handle a wide variety of materials suitable for a range of industrial environments, including stainless steel, mild steel, titanium, rilsan lined pipework, rubber coated pipework, monel alloy 400, polyethylene, and polyurethane. Coded and non-coded pipework is fabricated at EWL premises or at your site by our skilled fabricators.

Site Engineering, Services & Maintenance

We have over 30 years of experience in the engineering sector, and over the last three decades we have worked across a variety of industries. Our application insight means we can provide the solutions to virtually all your mechanical engineering problems. We employ expert engineers who possess a range of welding qualifications, lifting qualifications and access vehicle licences. They can visit your site for general plant maintenance, preventative maintenance, and annual mechanical plant shut down maintenance. Industry sectors covered include food, chemicals, industrial, bakery, and salt.

Other Services

All of the fabrication facilities that we operate are at our customers' disposal. This includes press brake bending, guillotining, sawing, rolling, TIG welding, MIG welding, Arc welding, coded pipe welding, metal polishing, anodising, powder coating, zinc plating, heat treating, milling, turning, tapping and drilling. If you would like any further information regarding any of these processes, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Water Jet Cutting - Foam

Our water jets cut foam using an ultra high pressure beam of water (approximately 0.2mm diameter). Foam can be cut into almost any desirable shape using our water jets without affecting the integrity of the material. Our water jets provide an excellent alternative to other methods such as laser or die cutting. Water jet cutting eliminates distortion or degradation of materials that may be caused by other methods. We can cut shapes straight from CAD drawings and utilise material to its maximum potential ensuring minimum waste. Our water jet cutting service is widely used for materials such as closed cell, open cell, high density, low density, foam seal gaskets, medical, cosmetic, memory, clothing and more.

Water Jet Cutting - Plywood

Our water jet cutting also provides designers and artists with the opportunity to create fantastic, bespoke designs and models. We work closely with many clients to achieve outstanding results. Water jet cutting is a cost effective alternative to other methods such as laser cutting or CNC routing as there are no set up costs required. We work from DXF, DWG, IGES and Adobe Illustrator drawings and cut designs from various materials. Virtually any shape can be cut up to a thickness of 240mm. Please contact us at EWL WaterJet for further with your requirements or for further information.

Water Jet Cutting - Aluminium

Our water jet cutting is excellent for cutting aluminium. We use water jets to cut aluminium up to 240mm thick, cutting to high tolerances and with a clean and burr free finish. For customers that require a different type of finish, the flexibility in cuts allows finishes to suit customers’ specific requirements. Water jet cutting can create considerable savings when combined with other traditional machining methods. Please follow the link to our website where you can find out more about this service and read examples of our work such as water jet cutting motor sport parts.

Water Jet Cutting - Neoprene Rubber

We also use water jet cutting to cut virtually any thickness of rubber. We use the 0.2mm cutting beam and computer generated nesting to utilise material to its best potential, keeping waste to a minimum. Water jet cutting is used with a wide range of materials such as natural rubber, sponge rubber, butyl rubber, rubber cork, PTFE, neoprene rubber, nitrile rubber, silicone rubber and more. Various intricate designs can be created straight from CAD drawings, sketches or samples. No dies or tools are required which means there are no set up costs. Please contact us at EWL WaterJet to find out more.
