Autec Industrial and Construction Training Ltd have been delivering comprehensive training in all aspects of safety for more than 20 years, offering specialised courses for the construction, engineering and warehouse industries.  Over these years we have worked with companies at local, national and international level and gained a deserved reputation for delivering training of the highest quality.  All our trainers are experienced and knowledgeable, not just in their specialised areas, but in the art of effective training.

It is not just good sense to make sure staff receive Health and Safety training – it’s the law.  We offer a vast range of theory and technical courses to help employers and employees feel confident that statutory requirements are consistently met.  From Site Safety Awareness to Risk Assessment, Fire Regulations and much more, our expert trainers make sure you and your staff are fully up to date and compliant with all regulations.  Visit our website to see the wide range of theory courses available.

We certainly don’t stop with theory, offering an impressive range of practical courses, from car and commercial vehicle training and hands-on training for construction plant operators, forklift, dozer, grader and digger operators, to name just a few.  You can see all the practical courses we offer on our website.

Courses are delivered by our talented trainers at our fully equipped training centre in Peterborough or, where appropriate, on site.

Car and Commercial Vehicle Training

We offer a range of driver training courses, including those suitable for private individuals as well as commercial clients.  For individuals wishing to learn to drive, our experienced trainers will guide you right through from applying for your provisional license to successfully completing the practical driving test.  We also offer LGV/HGV training which allows drivers to train on the vehicles they will be driving, at times best suited to your company.  Our Trailer and Horsebox training also takes place on your own vehicle to see you through the DSA Trailer Driving test.  Our Fleet and Defensive Driver training is offered either as a training day with a maximum of three candidates or our experienced trainer visits your site and follows a driver through part of their working day, assessing and advising as required.  We have knowledgeable trainers who can help drivers qualify in all UK driving categories and we are happy to tailor make a training programme for you.

New Roads and Streetworks Act

The New Roads and Streetworks Code of Practice is available from 1 October 2013 and will be implemented on 1 October 2014.  Autec offers a series of basic operatives courses and another set of units of basic supervisors courses.  Both will involve study in the classroom as well as simulated practical assessments.  Successful graduates will gain a SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority) certificate and SWQR (Streetworks Quality Register) card.  There are a number of units which can be completed individually so you can tailor the training to your experience and needs.  Free bed and breakfast accommodation is offered, depending on availability.  We also offer a NRSWA Re-Assessment course.

Manual Handling Regulations

It is not just on-site and warehouse workers who need to be aware of correct manual handling procedures.  Office staff can also be at risk – indeed our Manual Handling Regulations course will benefit all staff, who need to be aware of the risks involved in handling heavy objects.  Incorrect manual handling techniques can result in muscle strain, back problems and even hospitalisation.  On this half day course we aim to make delegates aware of the current manual handling regulations, to minimise risk to themselves and others and to identify and deal with potential hazards in the work place.  Trainees gain a Certificate of Attendance at the end of the course.

First Aid (HSE Accredited)

First Aid refers to the support and treatment first offered in  cases of sudden illness, accident, etc.  It is of vital importance that those administering this first aid are fully trained and competent.  At Autec we offer a range of courses to ensure this is the case.  Courses are run at our fully equipped training centre, or on-site, and our experienced trainers will teach delegates the vital skills.  We currently offer one, two and three day first aid training courses, appointed person training, emergency response and CP and automated external defibrillation, as well as refresher courses, paediatric first aid, activity first aid and canine first responder training.  All are courses are HSE Accredited.

General Site Safety Awareness

All candidates wanting to undertake construction site machine training or testing must first complete a Site Safety Awareness course.  This half day course provides a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of site safety.  So many different factors come into play to ensure site safety.  Our trainers will provide information across a wide range including: avoiding hazards, use of personal protective equipment, hygiene and welfare, first aid, fire safety, manual handling and more.  Construction Regulations are also covered, as well as Control of Substances Hazardous to Health and the Health and Safety at Work Act.  Delegates will be issued a certificate of attendance on completion of the course.

Construction Plant Training and Assessment

This range of courses is designed for all operators or trainees who operate construction plant and machinery.  Obviously, this covers a vast range of machines and equipment, but we have experienced trainers who can deliver across such a big range.  Have a look on our website to see what is currently available.   Or give us a call and let us know what you are looking for.  All our training courses are held in our health and safety training centre in Peterborough, which is extremely well equipped.  We offer training courses in both the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme and the Construction Plant Competence Scheme.

Slinger/Signaller Training

The safe use of lifting tackle is regulated by statutory law.  Our one day course is designed to ensure that you have all the knowledge needed to ensure safe selection, examination and storage.  The course also covers subjects such as lifting techniques, signalling procedures, as well as load security and weight assessment.  Delegates will gain a Certificate of Attendance.

Abrasive Wheel Safety

Before anyone is permitted to mount an abrasive wheel they must have received satisfactory training that complies with the Provision and Use of Working Equipment Regulations (PUWER).  We offer this mandatory training on our half day course, at the end of which each trainee will show they can safely mount an abrasive wheel on a least one machine.  All aspects of safety in this area are covered, including operator responsibilities.  A Certificate of Attendance will be issued at the end of the course.

Working at Height

Held at our training centre in Peterborough, working in a classroom, this course covers many different scenarios involved with working at height including various different types of ladder, scaffolding, crawl boards and working on different types of roof.  We will also look at safety measures such as fall protection and fall arrest systems and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).  Trainees will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of this one day course.

Fire Precaution Regulations

Obviously, fire is potentially a major hazard in work environments.  On this half day course you will learn about legal duties, as well as what causes fires and what the consequences of fire can be.  We look at fire hazards and ways to decrease the potential risk.  Your trainer will go over the risk assessment processes in this classroom-based course.  On completion of the course, attendees will be awarded a certificate of attendance.

Accident Reporting

This course is concerned with The Reporting of Injury, Disease and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR) which specify precise legal requirements to be complied with when reporting a workplace accident and when investigation such accidents.  The one day course details ways to report various types of accident and who you should contact.  Trainers will also cover keeping accident books and records, as well as completing F2508 forms.  On completion of the course, attendees will be awarded a certificate of competence.

Counter Balance Forklift

We offer forklift training and forklift refresher training on a daily basis at our training centre in Peterborough.  How long it will take to complete the course depends on an individual’s previous experience with forklifts, with the minimum being three to four days for someone with previous experience but no formal training.  One day refresher courses should be undertaken every five years.  The aim of the course, which includes practical and theory training, is to obtain or retain a counter balance forklift licence.

Dozers/Graders

Before you undertake any machine testing or training you will need to complete a Site Safety Awareness course, available in our selection of theory courses.  After that, or if you already hold a valid SSA Certificate, the length of the machine training will vary, dependent on your previous experience.  Once training is complete you can take the Achievement Test.  If you already hold a SSA certificate, issued within the last two years, you may be able to complete the Achievement Test straight away or with only a part or full day’s training.  We will assess your needs and advise.

Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations

The Management of Health and Safety at Work (MHSW) Regulations 1999 requires employers to make appropriate and adequate assessment of various types of risk in the workplace, including fire hazards and risk to the health and safety of employees and employers.  On this half day course you will look at how a risk assessment is used to identify necessary actions required to comply with statutory provisions.  Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance on completion of the course.

Mini Diggers

The duration of this course varies, dependent on ability and previous experience.  Trainers will assess your skill level and advise accordingly.  As a rough guide, those with little or no experience may need to undertake a foundation course.  Those with limited experience will take two to four days to complete.  Finally, those with lots of experience with these machines and who hold a current Site Safety Awareness certificate, may be able to go directly to the Achievement Test, or only need one half to one day’s training.  In any case, our experienced trainers will assess your needs and make sure that you are successful on the Achievement Test.  Please note that all candidates must have completed a Site Safety Awareness course.

Electricity at Work Regulations

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 places responsibility firmly on employers to carry out accurate assessment on the use of electricity in the workplace and to identify all possible risks.  Employees are required to report defects and unsafe practices and to carry out their work in a safe way.  On this one day course you will look at all the regulations involved and how to meet the statutory regulations.  Those completing the course will be given a certificate of attendance.
