Thermosonics established in 1993 and based in Leicester, offer a range ultrasonic products and services, including Plastic Welding and Equipment, Ultrasonic Welders, and Ultrasonic Food Cutting Equipment and Machines.
Thermosonics has many years experience supplying ultrasonic solutions and equipment to commercial clients throughout the UK covering:
Ultrasonic Welding
The ultrasonic generator converts the 50Hz mains signal to a 20kHz or 35kHz signal, when applied to the ultrasonic transducer in the press or handgun, this is converted into mechanical vibrations. These vibrations are amplified by a mechanical device called the booster and transmitted to the horn. The horn is an acoustic tool specially tuned to vibrate at the system frequency and shaped to fit the part to be welded. When the horn is applied to the part under pressure, the vibratory energy is transmitted to the joint area. This causes the two halves of the part to vibrate together resulting in heat through friction which melts the plastic at the joint only. When this molten state is reached, the vibration is stopped and pressure maintained briefly while the plastic solidifies. Cycle times are usually less than one second and weld strength approaches that of the material.
Ultrasonic Food Cutting
The application of ultrasonic vibrations to blades gives a cutting technique which is extremely effective for cutting bakery products and confectionery. The high frequency vibrations increase efficiency, reduce waste and deformation and also produce a self cleaning anti-smear effect particularly useful for products containing jam,
cream or caramel type fillings.
Ultrasonic Cleaning
Ultrasonic cleaning baths use a technique known as cavitation
which causes air bubbles in the cleaning fluid to implode
causing a 'scrubbing' effect which is a powerful yet gentle
method of removing soils from even the most inaccessible
crevices.
Sonochemistry
Power ultrasound can be used to assist chemical synthesis and promote catalysis, and to remove chemical and biological contamination from surfaces or liquids. It can be used in any processing where homogenisation, dispersion, particle size reduction or extracting of materials are essential components.
Contract Welding
Thermosonics offers a contract welding service for companies who do not wish to invest in their own machinery or who need to increase their capacity in the short term.
Ultrasonic Tooling and Fixtures
Whether you require a replacement for a cracked or worn horn, or tooling for a new product, Thermosonics can provide a fast turnaround at competitive prices.
Ultrasonic Welding Equipment
Thermosonics offer ultrasonic welders in both 20 and 35kHz to meet all your plastic welding needs.
