Society of British Interior Design

SBID is Britain’s standard-bearer organisation of the profession of interior design and represents members in practice, higher education and industry.

The Society of British Interior Design (SBID) was incorporated in April 2009 to represent the interests of practitioners, manufacturers and education in Britain and Europe.

SBID is a not-for-profit, non-political organisation, which means that any surplus created is reinvested into the Society for the benefit of the membership and the industry.

The objective of the Society is to promote the profession at the highest level of practise by bringing protection to the consumer and creating a clear separation between those that are professional and those that are hobbyist or untrained.

SBID was uniquely inducted into the European Council of Interior Architects (ECIA) – the highest level of measured knowledge and best practice for interior design throughout Europe. As it is the industry bearer for professional British interior design to Europe, we open new markets and business opportunities. Previously, due to a lack of standards, Britain had been excluded, and therefore had lost opportunity in business and profits.

Through SBID, Britain is now represented among sixteen other EU countries for the very first time in the twenty year history of the European Council.

SBID works enthusiastically to promote the highest possible standards within British interior design, training our members and acknowledging their achievements, facilitating introductions, research and development, rousing industry awareness, setting standards, lobbying government and facilitating our members and the industry to meet corporate and social responsibility goals.
