During the years, Warwick Design has worked on a number of projects for clients in the medical industry. One such project was for the NHS Innovation East Midlands who required our design services to help develop and transform an idea into a tangible product. The idea was to create a device that would help improve the success rate when removing cataracts. The aim of the device was to help surgeons make the opening (capsulorhexis) in the anterior capsule that holds the lens – a procedure that requires an incredibly high level of skill. We worked closely with the NHS Innovation East Midlands team to carry their initial concept forwards. We created a device that was recognised by the Wellcome Trust and received extensive funding.
We have been working with British pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline, for a number of years, during which time we have carried out extensive experimental, design and development work on a wide range of projects including the Veramyst/ Avamys, platform device Ellipta, production line test equipment for self-injectors, laboratory investigations and assembly machines. GlaxoSmithKline relies on Warwick Design to formulate ideas and design and develop complex products and devices that will offer excellent health benefits. For all projects, we ensure complete traceability of project data is available and all drawings are detailed for metrology.
We were approached to look at new ways in which two active pharmaceutical ingredients could be delivered simultaneously. We built upon the success of Diskus to create the Ellipta inhaler. This device was the product of extensive design and research carried out by Warwick Design. We created prototype steel tooling from early data which enabled us to evaluate performance and potential production requirements. We provided component data for clinical trial mouldings, industrialisation and scaleup stages. Alongside the design of medical devices and products, we also design and develop assembly and test equipment. With our existing knowledge of the products we are able to design and develop machines in fast turnaround times and offer them at competitive prices. Warwick Design is pleased to have worked with Kenco, one of the UK’s leading coffee brands. Kenco approached us to design and develop a system that would deliver single cups of freshly brewed coffee from roast and ground ingredients. On taking on this project it was important that we create a system that would be superior to systems already in the marketplace. Our specialist team created a unique ‘singles’ capsule as well as a processing system that would deliver the coffee. This drinks system has now been manufactured in its thousands and has proved to be a profitable source of income for Kenco. Following the success of this project, Kenco has approached us a number of times for design support on vending related projects.
Warwick Design was approached by EBAC to create a water cooler that would be more efficient than those already on the market. We created the world’s first injection moulded water cooler suitable for installation in office or home environments. The unit featured a unique disposable water system to counteract the problem of on-site sterilisation. Following the success of this project, EBAC has requested our assistance on a number of projects during the years, including the development of the Eddy domestic watercooler.
