Vortex are manufacturers of specialist vehicle de-pollution tools and equipment, as well as associated vehicle salvage products. Manufacturing in Nottingham and Denver, we can provide easy to use, robust and reliable equipment to the UK, European and North American markets. We strive to make our tools low maintenance and operator friendly so that users can focus on their productivity, and since we manufacture our own products, we can make changes to suit the requirements of individual customers.

In the early days of the UK ELV directive, Sims Metals asked us to manufacture a system for the removal of fuels from scrap cars, which evolved into the equipment that we provide today. Our business has since grown to include garage equipment, tanks, tools and process equipment. We can also provide scrap metal processing equipment including car balers, non ferrous balers, cable granulators and sheers.

Vehicle Stands

If you need a rugged alternative to a lift, we have the Vortex High Stand, which can support up to 3.5 tonnes at the necessary height for fuel extraction, oil draining and coolant water removal. The High Stand has blocks at either side, so that vehicles sit at the optimum angle to recover the maximum amount of fuel and oil in the shortest time.

Another option is the Preparation Stand, which is designed to make it safer and easier to remove under-bonnet fluids such as coolant water, brake fluid, screen wash, PAS and air con refrigerant.

We can also provide the Walkway Bund Tray, a galvanized platform made to assure that the operative is at the appropriate height for under-bonnet operations.

Oil and Water Tool

The Vortex Oil and Water Extraction Tool can easily drain used engine and transmission oils before pumping them to storage tanks, ready to be recycled. The drainers have removable stainless steel filters that are easy to clean, which helps to prevent blockages and keep the system working with minimal maintenance.

To drain oils using this tool, the funnels are positioned under the engine sump and the transmission, and can be raised to reduce the risk of spillage. This provides the benefit of a safer and cleaner yard, with no risk of slipping or ground contamination.

Storage Tanks

For storage of clean petrol or dirty fuel, our mobile 995 litre tank is perfect. The tank can be connected via pipe work to a Vortex Fuel Extraction Tool to collect the fuel, and is available with or without the pump cabinet on top. Other features include a vent line, suction line, filling line with safety fitting and gas displacement connection.

Our mobile storage tank is approved for flammable liquids in accordance with UK HSG176 and UK HSG51, and the petrol storage tanks have vertical, explosion proof design to DIN 6623. The fuel storage tanks are hot-dip galvanised both internally and externally.

Fluid Draining Equipment

Our range of fluid draining equipment for end of life vehicles includes fuel tools, oil and water tools, shock tools, tower systems, catwalk systems and more.

For companies that prefer lifts to stands, we have the Vortex De-pollution Tower, which provides the same pump technology and robust qualities as the Combi system, but is made for use with lifts. This tower provides the option of mounting two air reels on top, as well as the ability to switch between dirty and clean petrol or diesel.

Another option is the Vortex Mobile Fuel Extraction Tool, which is made for use at multiple dismantling bays, but can be just as effective in lower volume yards. This tool can be used with either stands or lifts, whether they be bought from us or already owned.

Car Baler

Capable of baling up to 30 cars per hour, the Orca car and multi-purpose baler is made with 12mm Hardox wear plates for extra support and longevity. The Orca is very user friendly and easy to operate, and comes with a 4.8 or 5.25 metre bale box. Our Nottingham based engineers can provide technical support or site visits if problems occur, and we also provide commissioning and training with this machine.

Extra include joy stick control, remote control, an auto greasing system, stabilisers, a bale output door, automatic cycle, an air conditioned cabin and a crane control cabin.

Cable Granulator

Capable of processing 60 to 80 kg per hour, the Monster Turbo Granulator chops cables with its blade mill and produces clean copper granules via its air separation system and vibrating bed.

For applications with car looms, it is recommended that you use the granulator with a pre-shredder.

Vortex Combi System

Combining our Fuel Extraction Tool and Oil and Coolant Draining system with a vehicle stand, the Vortex Combi System is the fastest under-vehicle draining system in the world. It is our highest throughput machine, and is used by some customers to process more than 60 cars per day.

Its simple to use features make it a very operator friendly system, which increases both process times and throughput, while also increasing safety. With easy to clean strainers and oversized pipes, the Vortex Combi System is made to be resistant to blockages, which assures that downtime can be avoided and production can keep flowing.

Vortex Shock Tool

Made as a robust and user friendly tool for tough environments such as scrap and salvage yards, the Vortex Shock Tool provides fast fluid extraction via an easy to use and manoeuvre system. It uses a closed vacuum system to keep shock absorber fluid enclosed in the machine, which allows for quick and easy fluid extraction from the shock absorbers. After being fitted around a shock absorber, the punch is driven in and the shock absorber is sealed, at which point the operator can turn the vacuum on and drain the shock absorber. The extracted fluid is then stored in the 90 litre vacuum cylinder.
