TCS Biosciences specialises in the supply of laboratory reagents, test kits and quality control reagents for use across the clinical, pharmaceutical, food and water sectors. We provide high quality products that allow our customers to excel in the provision of clinical care, medicines, food and drinking water.
TCS has been manufacturing and distributing bioscience products and equipment for more than 40 years. In that time we have established ourselves as Europe’s leading supplier of animal blood and sera for microbiological use. We are also a major player in the UK water industry and in the European pharmaceuticals market.
TCS is continually expanding and improving its portfolio with new products and technologies. We also help companies that are developing products and technologies of their own by giving them access to our technical and marketing expertise as part of a commercial collaboration. TCS are able to assist in any of the following areas:
More information about our products and services can be found in the sections below and on our website. If you have any questions or require expert advice, just give us a call or send your enquiry via email. Contact details are provided at the top of this page.
TCS offers an extensive range of serology reagents and test kits. They include:
You can find all of our serology reagents in our online catalogue.
Lectins are proteins that bind to specific carbohydrate groups on proteins or on cell membranes. They allow researchers to study a variety of biological structures and processes. Often they are used in the clinical laboratory to type blood cells, but there are many more specialist applications; they can be used as carriers of chemotherapeutic agents, as mitogens for fractuation of animal cells, and for investigations of cellular surfaces. Find out more about Lectins and their uses by visiting TCS Biosciences online.
Cellabs’ Crypto-Cel FITC Stain allows users to perform an in-vitro immunofluorescent test for the detection of Cryptosporidium occysts in faecal and environmental samples. It was the first stain of its kind to receive accreditation from the UK Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI).
Crypto-Cel FITC is a fluorescein-labelled monoclonal antibody reagent that binds specifically to Cryptosporidium oocysts, staining them bright green for visualisation. This is enhanced by an Evans Blue counter stain which causes background material to appear a contrasting red colour.
Crypto-Cel FITC stain is ideal for identifying the source of environmental infection.
EasyStain™ is an immunofluorescent reagent that binds specifically to Cryptosporidium oocysts as well as Giardia cysts in order to highlight their presence in water samples. Staining water samples with EasyStain™ will cause all present oocysts and cysts to fluoresce bright green. They can then be examined using fluorescent microscopy, flow cytometry or laser scanning cytometry.
EasyStain™ reagent is supplied as a working solution and therefore does not require dilution. Also included in the kit are: a wash buffer for eliminating excess antibody from slides or membranes; a positive control containing Cryptosporidium oocysts and Giardia cysts at a concentration of 200 to 400 per 50µl; and a mounting medium to apply to the microscope slide before adding a coverslip.
EasyPC™ is a polystyrene screw-capped test tube that contains a 2ml volume of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts (Iowa Strain). Each aliquot will provide between 80 and 120 oocysts when spotted onto a microscope slide. The oocysts are gamma-irradiation inactivated and display typical morphology.
EasyPC™ is used as a positive control for Cryptosporidium oocyst staining and counting, enabling easy quality control testing of FITC stains. It is DWI approved and supplied with a certificate of analysis.
Selectrol® provides a convenient source of viable micro-organisms for use in a variety of quality control and testing applications. The discs are manufactured exclusively from NCTC® (National Collection of Type Cultures) and NCPF® (National Collection of Pathogenic Fungi) and are guaranteed first generation derivatives from the source strain. They are freeze-fried for storage purposes, but when reconstituted will provide cultures with characteristic reactions. Being water soluble they can also be inoculated directly onto solid or into liquid culture media. Applications include:
More information about Selectrol® can be found on the TCS Biosciences website.
The TCS Isolate® Reagent Kit enables semi-automated immunomagnetic separation (IMS) of Cryptosporidium oocysts in environmental water samples. Automation of the IMS process allows you to standardise the rocking motion and thus improve the consistency and reliability of the results. The Isolate® test yields increased recoveries of oocysts and produces good results even when using dirty water samples. Separated oocysts are stained with an approved FITC antibody stain and are visualised with fluorescence microscopy.
TCS Isolate® Starter Packs include a variable speed rotator, an Isolate® rotator disc and hub, a dissociation block, six incu-clips, six micro-clips and six magna-clips.
