PAT Testing

A PAT (Portable Appliance Test) is a routine service in which all movable appliances are checked and tested in accordance with the Electricity at Work Act (1990) and the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974). It usually involves a visual inspection of the item, an earth bond test, insulation test and a polarity check. Our PAT Testing services will also include free plug and fuse changes (where required), free cable repairs (where required), a certificate of Electrical Appliance Testing, a full report containing detailed test results and all standard Pass or Fail labels. Fire Extinguisher Servicing and Maintenance

All employers are responsible for ensuring that their fire extinguishing equipment is maintained in an efficient state, that it is in efficient working order and in good repair. This is a legal requirement set out in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order of 2005. This is stipulated in the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations of 1997. Thermal Imaging Surveys

A thermal imaging survey enables us to identify particular patterns of heat radiation that may indicate a fault in an electrical or gas installation. Emergency Lighting Testing and Maintenance

The purpose of an emergency lighting test is to ensure that all emergency lights within the building remain functional (for a specified duration) in the event of a mains electrical failure, and that all lighting and exit signs are compliant with HSE regulations. 

SS Testing engineers perform emergency lighting tests in accordance with the HSE’s Code of Practice. This involves testing all luminaries by breaking the supply to them and checking that they operate satisfactorily.  It also requires charging indicators to be checked once the supply has been restored.

Periodic Testing

Periodic testing and inspection of electrical installations is essential for the prevention of damage caused by corrosion, wear and tear, excessive electrical loading, environmental influences and ageing. The IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) require that inspection and testing is carried out at such intervals as are consistent with the type of installation, the extent of its use, the frequency of maintenance and any external influences that may affect it.
