Machining

The Responsive Engineering Group uses state of the art equipment to achieve high precision CNC milling, turning and EDM. We are continually researching the industry and investing in new equipment in order to expand and better our services. We have recently invested in a five axis Mazak Integrex J400, a Mazak VTC 800/30 SR five axis vertical machining centre featuring a three meter bed, a Mazak 550M heavy duty long bed (3.3m) lathe, and a Mazak HCN high accuracy horizontal machining centre capable of toleranced with ± 7 microns on position and repeatability and ± 2 microns on interpolation. We have also introduced three new machining centres.

Welding and Fabrication

Our fantastic welding division, Weldex, is now based in our dedicated new factory and could quite possibly be one of the UK’s best equipped subcontract facilities. Weldex is a name that is well-respected worldwide and known for its high quality welding of high-hardness alloys, complex and high integrity fabrications. We also provide High Integrity Fabrications, Specialist Welding and Reclamation Welding. Weldex is accredited to the advances welding standard, ISO 3834.

Cutting

Our cutting division (Streamline) provides clients with a range of advanced cutting processes. Streamline was the first waterjet cutting business in the UK and provides the industry with outstanding services. Our highly skilled engineers have years of experience and engineering expertise and work with state of the art equipment in order to achieve first class cutting solutions. We use high performance ‘Trumpf’ machines with power outputs up to 6kw to achieve cutting of materials (including stainless steel) to 25mm thick within a 4m x 2m envelope. Our Bystronic Waterjet cutting machines are used to cut most materials, including the toughest of alloys, up to 150mm thick within a 4m x 2m envelope.

Pressing and Assembly

Our pressing and assembly division (Pressex) provides the industry with a range of top quality assembly and test operations alongside the manufacture of low-volume, high quality products that benefit from our range of presses up to 250 tonnes. Our assembly operations are mainly mechanical but may also be electromechanical. These operations are complimented by our testing services which are carried out to suit specific customer requirements. Specialist Engineering

We also act as a product nursery for companies with new and exciting intellectual property that is required to translate into prototypes before being commercially manufactured into end products. Our hugely talented team has many years experience and works closely with customers in order to achieve their designs and engineering objectives. We advise on the most efficient and cost-effect solutions needed to achieve first class results. Some of our recent projects have included the development of a revolutionary and highly secure ATM system as well as the development of underwater stab plates designed for use on subsea wellhead trees.

Each year, we invest in formal training programmes to ensure that members of staff are up to date with the latest industry training. Our operations management and key account management best practise is continuously reviewed and updated. Alongside our training programmes, 10% of the workforce is in apprenticeship or graduate programmes to ensure that the REG retains and grows the skills needed to ensure customers are satisfied.

Facilities

Responsive Engineering features four divisions that are based across three UK sites. At our Team Valley site in Gateshead our financial, administration and marketing teams work together with the pressing, assembly, test division and profiling division while our machining and welding divisions operate at another site only a couple of minutes away. In total, Responsive Engineering features 90,000 square feet of high quality, modern office and factory space.

QHSE

Responsive Engineering is compliant with a range of ever-changing legal and regulatory requirements. Our QHSE manager is responsible for ensuring that all working practises are uniform across the group and reports to the main board via the operation director. We have developed an integrated system to harmonise the requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 3834, OHSA 18001 and ISO 14001 of which the company is already accredited to. Manufacturing

Our ERP system features operational and financial controls. All project stages are monitored and managed to ensure top quality solutions are achieved within agreed time frame and budgets. Our highly experienced project engineers use software to track and progress projects and report to clients at various stages. All projects are monitored in each division and reported upon. We widely use lean manufacturing techniques and various six sigma black belts within the company are available to support lean manufacturing initiatives.
