Products

Renold plc is a leading manufacturer of industrial chain, gearboxes and couplings for use in power transmission, lifting, conveying and processing applications. We have a track record of delivering top quality, high reliability products for some of the most challenging operating conditions on Earth.

Renold has an unrivalled worldwide reputation for design innovation and manufacturing skill. We offer tailored solutions to our customers’ unique problems,  confronting the challenges of their particular industry and overcoming design issues created by the tough operating environments in which they work.

If you need a bespoke solution for your power transmission, lifting, conveying or processing problem, please visit our website for details.

Transmission Chain

At Renold, we design and manufacture high performance transmission chain which offers outstanding levels of wear and fatigue resistance, ensuring maximum reliability in some of the most demanding industrial applications. With a Renold chain you can be confident of reducing downtime and increasing productivity.

We offer two chain varieties: Standard Chain, which combines a wide-waisted plate shape for extra fatigue resistance with an end-softened, spin riveted pin for easy installation, and Solutions Chain, which has the same features but is designed to tackle the challenges of corrosion, abrasion and high shock load.

We also offer several ‘specials’ for specific industries. These include:

  • Small and large pitch (4mm up to 4 inch) chain
  • Adapted Transmission Chain
  • Hollow bearing pin chain
  • Nickel Plated Chain
  • Zinc Plated Chain
  • Extended pitch chain
  • Sidebow chain
  • Cranked link chain
  • Bush chain
  • Oilfield Chain

Conveyor Chain

Extensive design experience and flexible manufacturing techniques enable Renold to produce conveyors chains for a wide range of applications across many different industries. In fact, we can adapt our chain to meet the most demanding requirements. Typical applications include:

  • Bakery conveyors
  • Crawler cranes
  • Escalator steps
  • Heavy duty conveying
  • Oilfield applications
  • Road pavers
  • Sugar mill conveying
  • Waste water treatment

All of our chains can be manufactured to various international standards, including BS and ISO. To find out more about how our chains are made, please visit our website or click on the image to the right.

Leaf Chain

Used in a range of material handling applications and in many major civil engineering projects, Renold leaf chains offer exceptional fatigue strength, a high level of wear resistance and an extremely long service life. They feature link plates made from a special steel that can withstand shock loads, bearing pins that have excellent resistance to bending, and inner link plates that are manufactured to the closest tolerances in order to minimise friction and maximise efficiency. Smartlink

Smartlink™ is a system that allows you to monitor chain performance as it travels through your machine. A tiny microprocessor is attached to the side plate of a chain link and sends stress load information to a handheld receiver. If the stress-load conditions exceed the pre-determined limit values, the receiver will warn the operator so that an inspection can be made. More advanced chain data can also be transferred from the receiver to a Windows-based PC for in-depth analysis. Find out more about Smartlink™ and its safety benefits by visiting Renold online.

Gears & Gearboxes

Renold have been designing and manufacturing gearboxes and gears for over a century, which makes us one of the most trusted suppliers in the world. We have always been at the forefront of our industry, leading the way with innovative products and bespoke power transmission solutions that incorporate cutting edge technologies. All of our gears and gearboxes are designed and manufactured within an ISO 9001:2008-approved Quality Assurance System, giving our customers complete confidence in their performance and reliability under tough operating conditions.

Couplings

Our Coupling Division consists of three established manufacturing companies each with a long and respected industry pedigree. They enable Renold to offer the widest selection of high quality couplings supplied by any manufacturer, anywhere in the world.

  • Renold Ajax (Westfield, NY, USA) – Designs and manufactures custom gear spindles and gear couplings for the primary metals industry.
  • Renold Hi-Tec Couplings (Halifax, England) – Manufactures torsionally flexible couplings used in many demanding applications from steel making to power generation.
  • Renold Clutches and Couplings (Cardiff, Wales) – Manufactures many different types of coupling for a wide range of applications.

You can find out more about the companies that make up our Coupling Division by visiting the Renold website.

Sprag Clutch Freewheels

A sprag clutch is a freewheel device that has an inner race and an outer race, either of which can be the input or output member. The input member can be configured to drive the output member in the chosen direction whilst permitting the output member to over-run in the same direction. Generally speaking, a sprag clutch is able to transmit greater torque than other types of freewheel device (size for size). The three basic applications are:

  • Overrunning
  • Indexing
  • Backstopping

Discover our range of standard sprag clutch freewheels by visiting Renold online.

Trapped Roller Freewheels

A trapped roller freewheel consists of a cylindrical outer race, an inner race with ramps and individually sprung rollers. The springs ensure that the rollers are held in contact with the outer race and inner race ramp, enabling instantaneous torque transmission. Trapped roller freewheels have three basic applications:

  • Overrunning
  • Backstopping
  • Indexing
