Sustainable Resource Management Apprenticeships

As well as providing professional training, QSP are delighted to also offer apprenticeships – such as the Sustainable Resource Management Apprenticeship, at level 2 or level 3. It is designed for people new to the Resource Management Industry, or for delivering skills to existing employees who do not have vocational qualifications. The in-depth training encompasses both on and off the job training, which will enable an apprentice to operate appropriately in accordance with their employer, health and safety and the needs of the business. The framework covers the following five elements:
  • Vocational Qualification mandatory and optional competence units from the QCF 
    Sustainable Waste Operative or QCF Sustainable Recycling Activities qualifications at level 2
  • Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Sustainable Resource Management (technical certificate)
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS) - English Apprentices only
  • Employment Rights & Responsibilities (ERR) – a mandatory unit in the Principles of SRM

Cleaning and Environmental Services Apprenticeships

QSP also offers an apprenticeship in Cleaning and Environmental Services, which is designed for those new to the Resource Management Industry, or for current employees who do not possess vocational qualifications but want to improve their skills. By the end, the combination of on and off the job training will deliver key skills and training tailored to the employer’s requirements and the demands of the business. It includes the following five elements: 
  • Vocational Qualification mandatory and optional competence units from the QCF Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning and Support Services Skills 
  • Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles – (technical certificate) 
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS) England only

Asbestos Awareness

Many employees will come into contact with some form of Asbestos at some point, and it is essential that they are given the skills to identify it and act within strict health & safety guidelines, for the sake of their health and wellbeing, as well as their colleagues. As such, QSP are pleased to provide an Asbestos Awareness course, which teaches candidates how to identify different forms of asbestos, learn how it can harm individuals, recognise the risks, teach about how to handle asbestos, what the uses are of asbestos, and how to avoid disturbance. This course is essential for anybody who may come into contact with asbestos, such as general Maintenance staff, Plumbers, Electricians, Gas Fitters, Decorators, Demolition workers, Engineers, Architects, Surveyors and Alarm Installers to name just a few. Courses can be taken on site at company premises, or at our training centre in the West Midlands. Manual Handling

Employers have a duty of care towards employees, and it is essential that all workers are aware of their own responsibility when it comes to manual handling, in order to adhere to strict health & safety rules to reduce the possibilities of accidents and injuries. Our Manual Handling course is designed to equip staff with the skills and knowledge to be able to safely carry out manual handling without injuring themselves or colleagues. It is essential for anyone required to lift loads, within any industry. The course can be delivered on company premises, or at our West Midlands training centre, and is a half day in duration. Continuing Competence Refresher Course

CIWM and WAMITAB's Operator Competence Scheme has a requirement for all individuals to keep their competence and knowledge up to date by taking a short test every two years. As such, all employees within the scheme are required to demonstrate continuing competence relevant to their level of risk and responsibility. Our Continuing Competence Refresher Course is designed for Site Managers who hold a Certificate of Technical Competence (CoTC) or Operator Competence Certificate (OCC). The course consists of a short revision course delivered by an experienced, qualified assessor, covering latest developments in legislation and other relevant information, followed by a short test. The course is a half day in duration, and can be carried out at our training centre in the West Midlands, or on company premises if there are 5 or more attendees. CPC Driver Training

QSP are pleased to offer a CPC Driver Training course, to meet the needs of drivers within different organisations. After the EU Driver CPC Directive was introduced, CPC Driver Training is a requirement in order to improve training, road safety and fuel efficiency. All commercial LGV drivers now need to complete 35 hours of training before 9th September 2014, and all new HGV Drivers will immediately begin their cycle of periodic training upon receipt of their Driver Qualification Card (DQC) and will need to complete their further training within five years of attaining their initial Driver CPC. The hours can be split into one day sessions, half day sessions or weekly sessions throughout the month, and can be held at out Midlands training centre or on site. It is both the responsibility of the Driver and the Employer to ensure that training is maintained, otherwise failure to do so can result in hefty fines. Continuing Competence Test

QSP are proud to be an approved Pearson VUE testing centre, enabling us to run the WAMITAB/CIWM Continuing Competence test. The test is available in various different competencies, so please check with your local Environment Agency or with WAMITAB if you are unsure which specific test you need to take. If you achieved your current competency certificate between 1st March 2009 and 29th February 2012 ,the certificate needs to be renewed during the period of 1st March 2012 to 28th February 2014. If you achieved your current competency certificate between 1st March 2012 to 28th February 2014, the certificate needs to be renewed during the period of 1st March 2014 to 29th February 2016. COTC Site Cover

At QSP, we can provide CoTC cover for all sites that require a Technical Competent Manager, for hazardous, non hazardous and inert transfer, treatment and landfill facilities. Our commercially experienced staff are on-hand to assist you, and can provide cover services whilst your staff’s training is being carried out, or for longer periods if required. WAMITAB NVQ Qualifications - Non Statutory levels 1 - 4

QSP are able to assist staff with achieving NVQ level 1-4 voluntary WAMITAB awards. We can offer assistance with all WAMITAB non statutory awards for levels 1 to 4, including: Waste Management Operations NVQ levels 1, 2 & 3, Cleaning & Support Services levels 1 & 2, Recycling Operations levels 1, 2 & 4, Weighbridge Operations level 2, Management of Recycling Operations level 3, Waste Management Supervision level 3, Facilities Management level 3, and Managing Waste Collection Operations level 4. WAMITAB NVQ Training - Statutory Level 4 - Leading to CoTC

QSP are able to offer full assistance in NVQ level 4 WAMITAB awards, and we can help you to achieve your award in an efficient and successful way. The last certifications for those registered for an NVQ level 4 WAMITAB award is 30th September 2014, so now is the time to achieve your award if you haven’t yet completed the assessment. QCF - Levels 1 - 3 Certificate in Cleaning & Support Services

QSP specialise in providing level 1, 2 and 3 Certificates in Cleaning and Support Services. The awards are assessed to a national standard, and are designed to encourage best practice to allow employees to develop their skills whilst ensuring staff health & safety for their specific tasks. Each award can be tailored to each business or job role, covering all aspects of cleaning and support services. It is ideal for specialist cleaners and those looking to formalise their experience, and is especially suited to staff cleaning streets, conveniences, roads, domestic and commercial properties, windows and kitchens.  Run by our approved QSP Assessors, the courses guide you through regulations, theory and support, followed by an on the job practical. QCF - Level 2 Award or Certificate in Cleaning Principles

At QSP, we can provide a Certificate in Cleaning Principles or Level 2 Award training to encourage best practice in a specific cleaning role. Assessed to a national standard, the certificates and awards are designed to allow employees to develop skills and learn more about health & safety regulations, to enable staff to undertake their daily tasks more efficiently.  The qualifications are ideally suited to new entrants into the Cleaning industry, as well as for Apprentices and existing specialist workers looking to formalise their training. (It also provides the knowledge component of the Cleansing Apprenticeship – the underpinning occupational knowledge units which the apprentice must achieve.)  Suitable for all specialist cleaners, from road cleaners to kitchen porters, the qualifications can be tailored around an individual’s responsibilities. QCF - Level 2 Property, Facilities & Caretaking Certificate

We can provide a Level 2 Property, Facilities & Caretaking Certificate qualification for specialist caretakers, property managers or senior cleaners, to help formalise their experience within the nationally assessed and recognised awards scheme. QSP can provide the qualifications by providing an approved Assessor, to enable staff to develop their skills and encourage best practice. As well as offering guidance throughout, candidates will receive an on the job assessment, which can be tailored to their own responsibilities, in order to achieve the attainment. QCF - Levels 1 - 4 Diploma for Sustainable Recycling Activities

QSP are pleased to provide Level 1 to 4 Diplomas for Sustainable Recycling Activities. Ideal for employees in the public or private recycling sector, it is especially designed for staff responsible for sorting, segregating and processing the waste, through to supervisor and managers. It is a nationally recognised qualification, which encourages the use of best practice, and can be tailored to individual job roles to assist with day to day tasks through a choice of units. Our approved QSP Assessors will offer full guidance, followed by an on the job test, with candidates being assessed for their understanding of health & safety, as well as their operational management of recycling operations. QCF - Level 4 Operator Competence Awards - Leading to CoTC

Did you know that under the Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) 2007, a permitted facility that receives waste or recycling materials must have competent personnel on site at all times? In order to achieve this, QSP provide Level 4 Operator Competence Awards - Leading to CoTC, which assesses candidates to a national standard to help them improve their skills within the role, as well as being compliant to the EPR. This is ideal for managers or supervisors, and qualifications can be gained in the individual company’s area of expertise, including: transfer, treatment, landfill, physical & chemical biological, anaerobic digestion, composting, hazardous, non hazardous and many more. VRQ - Level 3 Award in Waste and Resource Management

QSP offers the Level 3 Award in Waste and Resource Management, which is ideal for staff who have supervisory and managerial roles in the Waste and Resource Management industry. The VRQ qualification encourages best practice, as well as offering advice and guidance tailored to the individual workplace. This is a classroom based course, of five days in total, which can be at our training centre in the West Midlands, or on site. It includes a presentation and assignments relevant to the workplace, and aims to show candidates can achieve a demonstrable level of competence in relevant activities. For more advanced health & safety qualifications and management, QSP are pleased to offer the Level 5 Health & Safety certification. This is a nationally recognised City and Guilds qualification, which can be useful for any industry or workplace. This advanced qualification demonstrates more complex, technical and specialised activities which can be performed in a professional manner with a large degree of responsibility. This can be for key staff members, managers or supervisors, and it helps to develop advanced skills and expertise. NEBOSH

QSP are a NEBOSH accredited centre, and we are pleased to provide a range of courses designed to offer excellent health & safety training for managers, staff and other supervisors who have health and safety responsibilities. We offer a NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, a NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management, a NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety and a NEBOSH National Certificate in Environmental Management. Courses are mainly classroom based and can vary in duration. We can hold the courses at our own training centre, or at your place of work depending on numbers. The NEBOSH Certificate Level 3 qualification is fully gained when specific modules have been achieved, providing a vital first step towards a career in health and safety. IOSH Managing Safely

QSP offer an excellent and versatile IOSH Managing Safely course, which consists of seven core modules. It can be spread across a convenient time frame, and it is designed for managers and supervisors in absolutely any industry. The course offers practical advice and information on the latest practical action and legislation that must be carried out in the workplace, as well as how to pass on the knowledge to relevant colleagues. As well as a presentation, workshop, case studies and practical project tailored to the individual’s workplace, there is a 45 minute written assessment made up of multiple choice questions. IOSH Working Safely

The IOSH Working Safely course is a one day course that’s designed for staff with no supervisory responsibilities, working in any sector of industry. It offers a new approach to health & safety training in the workplace, and gives practical and helpful advice to all staff. This engaging and popular course consists of five modules with assessments undertaken in just one day, and you will receive a certificate or small ‘passport’ certificate upon successful course completion. Supervising Staff Safely

QSP offer an innovative course in Supervising Staff Safely, which is accredited and approved by the British Safety Council. The course enables staff to be informed about health & safety and current and appropriate legislation, and the level 2 certificate is aimed at managers and supervisors. The course can be undertaken at our training centre, or on company premises, and has a 3 day duration. The training utilises the very latest learning methods, with specific emphasis on interactive techniques. Our experienced and approved Tutors provide industry knowledge and practical solutions, enabling the candidates to be able to avoid or manage risks effectively in their own specific jobs. Risk Assessments

For staff required to carry out risk assessments in the workplace, it is vital that they have received the necessary training and remain up to date with current practice. QSP’s Risk Assessments course is accredited by the British Safety Council, and provides the information and knowledge required to inform key individuals of the unique needs of their organisation, as well as more general health & safety requirements. The course can be taken at our dedicated West Midlands training centre, or on site, and lasts for one day. Using the latest learning techniques, the Risk Assessments course is designed to equip staff through interactive sessions and a practical assessment related to the individual’s job role, which is marked by an external examiner. Reversing Assistants

The Reversing Assistants course is specially tailored for staff who are required to provide assistance to vehicle drivers during vehicle manoeuvring operations. The course outlines the responsibilities of both the driver and the assistant, and what steps and considerations need to be made to improve success and safety for all involved. It helps to improve confidence and team work, as well as reduce the risk of injury and reduce damage risk to vehicles. CIWM Waste Smart

CIWM have re-branded their previous Waste Awareness Course, and we now offer CIWM Waste Smart – the latest courses offering both Foundation and Advanced levels. It is tailored to staff responsibilities when handling, producing or managing waste, giving successful candidates a completion certificate that is valid for five years.

It teaches why and how waste should be managed sustainably, and suggests how performance can be improved. The Waste Smart Advanced Level is ideal for those who need to implement, manage and monitor improvements in waste and resource management. It also gives candidates the opportunity to build skills and knowledge for reducing waste, saving money and improving compliance, through practical exercises. Duty Of Care

QSP’s Duty of Care course aims to provide an up to date overview of the Duty of Care legislation to individuals. It is designed for all staff who are new entrants into the Waste Management Industry, or those who have responsibilities in the production, transport, handling, treatment and disposal of waste. Consisting of presentations, workshops and case studies, the course is an important half day overview for staff of various levels. It can be attended at our dedicated training centre, or on site. As well as teaching terminology and providing relevant examples, the course innovatively outlines the Duty of Care in full, and aims to improve staff knowledge within this sector.
