Glass Filter Dryer

GFD, our cutting-edge lab glass filter dryer possesses state-of-the-art filtration and drying capabilities but at a size suited to laboratory environments.  It affords the same features and reliability as our full-size production filter dryer but on a smaller scale.  Our product range features three different GFDs to suit a wide range of requirements and includes the MINI LAB GDF, LAB GDF and MAXI LAB GDF.  For the detailed specifications of each unit, please see the Glass Filter Dryer Brochure on our website.

PSL’s Simplefilter

This simple but highly effective pressure filter / vacuum filter uses a ‘GloveBag’ for contained off loading.  It has been designed for practicality with a swing-out base for efficient drying and easy product removal, extremely low running costs and is also fitted with wheels to the base offering complete manoeuvrability.  We manufacture two versions of the simplefilter: 0.125m2 and 0.3m2.  For full specifications of each model, please download the brochure from our website. 


This product is highly recommended for applications such as hydrogenation, carbon filtration, API filtration, catalyst recovery and as a pre-filter for micro-filtration.

Pilot Plant/Production Filter Dryers

We have applied over 23 years’ experience from our engineering and process experts to achieve the leading-edge design of our agitated nutsche filter dryers (ANFD).  The result provides sophisticated drying and filtration combined with high levels of engineering reliability.  The efficient drying is achieved by a unique method of heating via an underplate.  The ANFD does not compromise on quality and exudes high grade safety features in line with industry regulations. The ANFD is differentiated by its mixing agitator, which is made up of several curved blades.  This allows it to penetrate even the most challenging of cakes whilst ensuring good mixing.

Contained Filtration

PSL has designed the FilterBox to give maximum contained filtration and drying that is essential when working with active pharmaceutical ingredients that display high levels of potency.  This is a highly efficient unit that provides a variety of features including: fully contained filtration, charging, drying, sampling, base-opening , discharging and cleaning, not to mention filter mesh inspection and changing.  When dealing with smaller amounts of highly active products PSL’s GFD FilerBox provides the ideal solution.  Its acrylic glovebox encases either the MINI LAB (0.002m2) or LAB (0.01m2) Glass Filter Dryer.  The Production FilterBox on the other hand has been designed to surround the MAXI LAB (0.05 m2) Glass Filer Dryer or 0.125m2, 0.2m2 or 0.3m2 agitated nutsche filter dryer.

Dispensing and Sampling

Mills and Micronizers

PSL’s  highly skilled engineers have collaborated their experience with state of the art design to create our contained micronizer mill/air jet mill globe box isolators, a solution for making active ingredients smaller.  Total containment is achieved allowing compounds to be milled safely and the glovebox/isolators can be integrated with any variety of micronizer mill.  In order to inhibit potential dust explosions it is possible for nitrogen to be removed from any of the apparatus and levels of lower than 1% can be obtained.

Charging Isolators

We are pleased to be able to provide our customers with a wide selection of contained vessel charging solutions, applying the vessel isolation method.   They have been designed to ensure maximum protection for both product and operator with containment levels within nanogram amounts.  We can help you select the appropriate containment levels based on the intended operating procedures.  For charging slurry into reactors and other vessels we recommend our glovebox isolator, which is suitable for both extensive production levels and smaller scale production.

Tray Dryers

PSL manufacture three designs of tray dryer: cake stand tray dryers, laboratory tray dryers and sterile tray dryers.  Each have been meticulously designed to offer high levels of efficiency combined with operating features that result in the units being extremely safe and easy to use. The ergonomic design lends itself to downflow booths and clean rooms or they can be used conjointly with PSL containment isolators.  Their high containment levels and ability to meet sterile process requirements mean they are well suited to drying toxic substances and unstable products.

Drum Filling Systems

For Drum Filling Systems that offer the highest levels of product and operative safety, look no further than the range manufactured by PSL, one of the original containment pioneers.  Designed for ease of use, they increase adaptability of production by employing a containment system that can be used for powders of different potencies. Our drum filling systems are bespoke to your specific needs, taking into account operator exposure levels and product protection as well as cleaning regimes and powder properties.  We have designed the systems to make the loading procedure more efficient and this has been achieved by the inclusion of a continuous liner that can be loaded into a bayonet-style cage from a loading table.

Discharging Isolators

PSL has designed a wide range of discharging isolators suited to both small-scale and full-scale production activities.  Each offers contained sampling, with the ability to alter containment levels, and offloading from a variety of units including reactors, dryers, filter dryers, filters and mixers. PSL is able to provide comprehensive process solutions by integrating discharging isolators and filter dryers, filters and tray dryers with a number of different vessels. We have enhanced our filter dryer discharging isolator to offer complete product recovery by the optional use of an innovative Heel Removal Glovebox that can be affixed to any filter dryer vessel and contains a unique discharge plug valve and raking tools.  Please contact us for further information.

Sieving

For ultimate containment our sieving gloveboxes/isolators offer containment standards in nanogram amounts.  We are able to manufacture sieving gloveboxes/isolators as standalone products or integrated with mills and micronizers, blenders, weighing scales and other process equipment.  Production needs are considered with sieve mesh change and blinding.   Please contact us for further information on our sieving isolators and to discuss our 3D modelling and full scale mock up service.

Tablets/Capsules

PSL is pleased to provide bespoke high containment systems that can be integrated with existing capsule filling machines and tablet presses. Our XcelprotectTM isolator has been designed and manufactured in collaboration with Capsugel and utilises its precision powder micro-dosing system to enhance operator safety from potent compounds and to stop vibration transmission. Modification of existing units is effective at eliminating contamination as the Xcelodose features mechanical and electrical components in the bottom half of the isolator for easy access and containment.

Sterile Production

We have an abundance of understanding when it comes to pharmaceutical and bioprocessing applications and we have utilised this in the design of our range of sterile materials handling solutions.  All have been manufactured to meet the requirements of cGMP when using aseptic processing for sterile drug and biological product manufacturing.  Our sterile production equipment provides real problem solving solutions including sterile formulation and filling, implant coating machines, complex aseptic powder handling, fraction collector systems, aseptic filter dryers and microsphere filters.

Sterile Filter Dryers

We manufacture a range of sterile filter dryers that are suitable for laboratory operations right up to those with full production capacities.  Over the years we have refined our leading edge filter dryer design to provide better efficiencies of aseptic manufacturing taking into account the need for isolating the specific substance for washing and drying. Our sterile filter dryers allow for this process to take place within one sterile unit, thus decreasing the risk of contamination.  Double gas lift-off mechanical seals have been incorporated in the design along with innovative bellow technology and it also offers CIP (clean-in-place) and SIP (steam-in-place) capabilities.

Microsphere Formulation

Our exclusive Microsphere Refiner has been developed for microsphere formulation as a result of PSL’s extensive background in sterile production.  Suitable for small scale processes right up to production scale our refiner delivers the handling required for this specific and unique manufacturing process.  The Microsphere Refiner filters the microspheres into the required size before the drying process.  Our microsphere solutions are predominantly used for drug delivery; however other applications include coatings, cosmetics and cancer research.  Please contact us for further information on our products for microsphere formulation.

We work with each client to set up OEL test protocol to ensure containment levels are achieved to nanogram levels and that testing is checked by an independent third party industrial hygienist who provides a final OEL testing report.
