Products

P & P Technology Ltd is a specialist manufacturer of EMI and RF shielding and screening products. From attenuation vents and windows to knitted wire mesh and conductive wrapped fabric gasketing, we have all your EMC compliance requirements covered.

Established in 1989, P & P Technology Ltd has more than 20 years of experience designing and manufacturing specialist shielding and screening products, making us well placed to offer bespoke solutions to guard against a range of climatic and environmental conditions.

In a relatively short time, P & P Technology Ltd has grown to become one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of radio frequency and electromagnetic compatibility shielding products. Today we’re able to offer our customers a diverse range of vents, strips, tapes, wires, mesh and gaskets.

At our production facility in Essex we manufacture a huge range of shielded windows, vents and gaskets, almost all of which can be completely customised according to your requirements. An ISO 9001:2008 accredited quality management system ensures all standards are met and product quality maintained.

We are able to provide a fast and efficient response to virtually all shielding problems, and can offer a range of services to help you achieve compliance with the EC Directive on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).

Knitted Wire Mesh

Knitted wire meshes are made from a single continuous filament and offer exceptional levels of EMI shielding performance when evenly compressed between two metallic contact surfaces. They are available in four basic wire types (Monel, Aluminium, TCS and Stainless Steel), each of which has its own specific characteristics. Knitted wire meshes provide only limited environmental sealing and so are normally used for applications that are not exposed to the elements (unless they are protected by a further external elastomeric seal). However, they do have a long service life and are resistant to high temperatures.

Metweave

Metweave is our range of ultra-soft, fabric wrapped shielding profiles designed for fixed-gasket applications within the computer and telecommunications markets. They utilise a highly conductive and durable impregnated fabric which is formed around a sponge or foam core to create a highly versatile, low compression gasket medium which offers excellent EMI shielding and provides outstanding dust and moisture protection. Metweave shielding is available in strip form or as ready-to-fit pre-formed or jointed gaskets. Standard materials feature a self-adhesive backing for quick and easy fixing. For more information, please visit P & P Technology online.

Winshield

Winshield is the name given to P & P Technology’s EMI screened windows, which combine the physical strength and optical clarity of laminated glass or plastic with the shielding effectiveness of fine wire gauze. Windows are usually mounted within a frame or clamp system or are bonded onto a fascia or door panel using conductive adhesive or caulking. There are many different permutations to the Winshield range – for details of these, please head over to the P & P Technology website or contact our sales team on 01376 550525.

Silshield

Silshield silicone rubbers offer outstanding environmental protection and EMI shielding. They incorporate a matrix of vertically orientated wires that pierce both flat faces of the elastomer and provide approximately 100 contact points per square centimetre. Silshield rubbers – which include solid silicone, sponge silicone, fluorosilicone and flame retardant sponge silicone – are produced in sheet or strip form and are usually factory fabricated and die-cut into gasket profiles according to customer requirements. For technical advice on material selection, please contact us on 01376 550525.

Aluweave

Aluweave is a highly conductive gasket medium produced by filling a woven aluminium mesh with silicone, fluorosilicone or neoprene rubber. It is ideal in situations where thicker EMI gaskets are unsuitable - however, because it is woven, Aluweave is unsuitable for ‘landwidths’ of less than 3mm for die-cut gaskets.

Aluweave is available in two thicknesses (0.4mm and 0.5mm) and is generally supplied in pre-cut gaskets constructed in accordance with customer requirements. It can also be supplied in sheet form.

Ventshield

Ventshield is the name given to our attenuating honeycomb ventilation panels, which comprise of a conductive airflow media retained within a lightweight aluminium extrusion. Ventshield EMC vents are designed for use in racks and other forms of commercial enclosure. They can be mounted onto most forms of shielded enclosure where airflow is needed either over cooling fans or by convection.

In situations where the vents may be exposed to the elements they can be fitted with ‘slant’ honeycomb, which has a downward facing aperture to prevent the entry of rainwater. This has the added benefit of directional airflow and increased attenuation due to the higher aspect-ratio of the cell structure.

Exshield

Exshield conductive gaskets are made from silicone-containing metal powder fillers which combine to offer high levels of attenuation with outstanding environmental shielding and conductivity. Customers can choose from a variety of filler materials, from nickel to pure silver – the choice of material depends on the application you have in mind. Also available are fluorosilicone variants for use in the presence of hydrocarbon contamination.

Exshield was initially developed for high performance shielding in military applications. However, the introduction of low cost fillers has made them accessible to the commercial sector, meaning they are now used in a variety of applications where environmental and EMI screening is required but where space restrictions or stringent environmental protection necessitates a small cross section profile.

Conductive Finger Strips

P & P Technology’s Contact Finger Strips are available in a range of profiles and in a choice of materials. Customers can also choose from five different finishes and two fixing options (self-adhesive or clip-on). Contact Finger Strips from P & P have a low closing force and do not take a compression set. They also benefit from a long service life and good corrosion resistance. For advice on applications, please get in touch with our sales team on 01376 550525.

Conductive Foil Tape

Offering a cost-effective solution to EMC shielding, our conductive foil tapes can be used to seal joints on enclosures and for ground termination between panels in shielded rooms. Tapes are available in copper and aluminium, both of which have a conductive adhesive for fixing.

We also offer bake and peel conductive foil tape, which is commonly used as an alternative to selective plating or chromate conversion on painted surfaces. The tape is fixed in place prior to painting – once painting and baking are complete, the peel off mask can be removed to expose a conductive foil surface to which an EMC gasket may be fixed.

Connector Gaskets

P & P Technology’s range of connector gaskets comprises of several precision die-cut gaskets made from a variety of conductive and non-conductive materials. They are usually made with thin reinforced materials such as Aluweave or Monex: this ensures that the compressive forces exerted on the connector do not distort the gasket. However in some circumstances S Shielding or E Shielding materials can be more appropriate. For more information on our connector gaskets, please visit P & P Technology online or get in touch with our sales team on 01376 550525.

Conductive Adhesives

Our one-part, conductive particle filled, room-temperature-vulcanising silicone rubber adhesives are made with standard silicone and fluorosilicone base compounds combined with a variety of particle fillers. This combination produces a readily extrudable paste that self-cures when exposed to atmospheric moisture. Once the paste is fully cured it offers excellent adhesion and low volume resistivity. Silicone rubber adhesives such as these are generally used as caulking materials to fill voids and smooth surface imperfections or to retain a conductive gasket in position during assembly.

Non-Conductive Gaskets

As well as gaskets for electromagnetic shielding, P & P Technology offers a full range of non-conductive gaskets for use in applications where only an environmental seal is required. Non-conductive gaskets produced by P & P Technology are supplied complete as labelled and bagged kits. They can be die-stamped according to customer requirements, with or without a self-adhesive backing. Custom jointed O-Rings are also available.

Non-conductive gaskets are typically made with silicone, neoprene or EPDM. These are available in fire retardant variants to UL94-V0 and UL94-HF1. Carbon loaded silicones are also available for ESD applications.
