Products

Based in Hertfordshire, Miler Piling Ltd are a specialist geotechnical contractor who provide industry leading equipment and technology for the design and construction of piled foundations and retaining walls. Since our inception 2005, we have fast become an industry leader in the installation of Continuous Flight Auger (CFG) and rotary bored panels. We also work closely with some of the UK's largest companies, including Network Rail and London Underground. As well as our fleet of CFA, cased CFA and rotary rigs, we also have in-house design capabilities, this means we can offer detailed and bespoke engineering options to our clients. We also differ to most contractors in that we operate our own ancillary plant to facilitate our works. This includes the installation of working platforms, pile caps, capping beams and bulk excavations.

Rotary Piling

Rotary boring methods involve the use of a temporary casing to seal the pile bore through water-bearing or unstable strata, overlying suitable stable material. Once the desired depth is reached, we then introduce a reinforcing cage and concrete is poured into the borehole and the casing can be withdrawn. Customers are reminded that in some cases, there may be a need to employ drilling fluids in order to maintain a stable shaft. Our rotary auger piles are available in sizes of 300mm to 2400mm and larger and pile lengths of 50 metres and beyond can be achieved.

CFA Piling

Another piling method we employ is Continuous Flight Auger piling or (CFA). This involves drilling a hole into the ground with a hollow stemmed to the required depth. It is at this point that concrete is pumped down the stem of the auger whilst it is slowly withdrawn, forming a concrete pile. CFA piling can have many benefits over other methods including the fact it does not require any temporary casing. This form of piling is also known for causing minimal disturbance and it is for this reason that it is often used in noise and environmentally sensitive sites.

Piled Walls

We can construct two different types of piled walls, these include contiguous bored piles and secant piles. Contiguous piles involve a method of closely spacing rotary or CFA piles to form a retaining wall, which is often used for deep basements or cut and cover tunnels. Secant piles are fairly similar to contiguous except that the gap between the primary piles is filled with a secondary 'soft pile'. The 'soft pile' usually consists of an unreinforced concrete mix, constructed to a depth just below the final excavation.

Cased CFA

In the case of deeper excavations were stability is paramount, the cased CFA method may be a more suitable option. Almost identical to the CFA piling method, this technique involves the auger being encased within a steel casing. Along with all the benefits of CFA, this method also allows for excavations with excellent vertical tolerances and a good control of drilling direction. It is also worth noting that in cases where piles are required with cut-off below ground level, the casing can be disconnected using a quick release mechanism and left in the ground long enough to prevent the concrete from slumping.

Safety

Safety is incredibly important to us and because of this, we employ the plan safe, work safe approach. If you visit our website you will find our plan safe, work safe brochure which documents our policies in full. The entire approach covers basic safety all the way to more advanced procedures. We also include detailed images and diagrams to simplify the learning process and make it much easier to spot potential hazards. If you require any futher information on our safety approach, you can contact us via the website.

Case Studies

Customers can visit our website to view some fantastic examples of our work. There are a wide range of projects to choose from including different locations, engineers and clients. When you click on a project you will able to view the date it was completed as well as a gallery of images, documenting the process. Just some of the projects that can be viewed include Embassy Gardens, Stratford, One Tower Bridge and The Landmark. Customers who are considering our services should view the case studies for a better understanding of our quality.
