Products

Lührfilter is a global engineering company providing environmental solutions to help organisations meet and exceed legislative requirements for the reduction of air pollution. We design, supply and install a range of advanced filtration systems that collect particulates and dust that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. We also offer options for the removal of acidic gases, heavy metals and dioxins by gas adsorption.

Lührfilter Ltd is the UK subsidiary of Lühr Filter GmbH & Co KG, a global engineering firm with headquarters in Stadthagen, Germany. The UK division has been operating since 1974, providing businesses in Britain with a complete range of Lührfilter products and offering turnkey installations to meet specific requirements.

The systems we supply come with either vertically or horizontally orientated filter elements. These are fitted with filter media which is manufactured by one of our sister companies, so we can be absolutely confident in their performance.

For high temperature applications, Lührfilter can complement its filtration systems with evaporative coolers and forced convection heat exchangers which can also be used as recuperators in certain processes.

Bag Filters

Lührfilter’s range of flat bag fabric filters includes both horizontally and vertically mounted filter elements.

The filters can be supplied with various types of cleaning device, the selection of which depends on the application and size of the plant.

Cleaning options include:

  • MWF Travelling Medium Pressure - Semi-offline Cleaning
  • DWF Travelling Compressed Air - Semi-offline Cleaning
  • DF Compressed Air - 'Online' Cleaning
  • DFK Compressed Air - Offline Cleaning

The principles of each of these are explained on the Lührfilter UK website. Simply follow the link above or click on the image to the right to be redirected.

Tubular Heat Exchangers

Our flat tube air-to-air heat exchangers operate on the principle of forced draught convection. Process gases are made to pass over the outside surfaces of the exchanger’s elements while cooling air, which is generated from ambient using axial or centrifugal fans, is blown along its bores, thereby instigating the exchange of heat. If required the heat exchanger can be equipped with a cleaning device which wipes the surfaces of the elements and removes excessive dust. This helps to ensure the exchanger remains efficient.

The exchanger is used to cool process gases down to a temperature that is suitable for the chosen filter media. It is required for many high-temperature applications.

Evaporative Coolers

Our evaporative coolers take the form of vertical cylindrical vessels in which spray nozzles are inserted. These inject atomised water droplets into the process gas in order to cool it. The water is atomised using compressed gas or air.

Lührfilter evaporative coolers can be used to cool process gases from 800°C. Meanwhile our heat exchangers can cool gases with a maximum temperature of 550°C.

Additive Conditioners

Our conditioning rotors are installed as part of a dust recirculation system.  Dust which has been collected is returned to the inlet of the plant, fed into the incoming gas stream and then into the conditioning rotor. There are two reasons for installing a conditioning rotor:

1) To increase the utilisation of reagents for acidic adsorption.

2) For highly adhesive particulates to promote the agglomeration with conditioned filter dust.

Filter Cleaning Systems

Lührfilter offers four different types of cleaning system for use with its flat bag fabric filters. These are:

  • Model MWF (Medium Pressure Semi-Offline Cleaning) – Cleaning of flat bag rows takes place sequentially in steps by means of a cleaning device that travels within the clean gas chamber. Cleaning air is injected into one row of filters by means of a medium pressure fan.
  • Model DWF (Compressed Air Semi-Offline Cleaning) – As above, but cleaning air is injected into one row of filters by means of compressed air.
  • Model DF (Compressed Air Online Cleaning) – Cleaning of rows takes places sequentially in steps using a cleaning controller or PLC.  The clean chamber has several compressed air injectors which force air into the flat-bag rows contrary to the normal filtration flow, thereby removing particle cake from the filter media.
  • Model DFK (Compressed Air Offline Cleaning) – Flat bags are cleaned during interrupted filtration processes by means of compressed air pulses.

Waste to Energy

Waste to Energy (WtE) incinerators offer an economic solution for organisations looking to simultaneously reduce their landfill requirements and cut their energy bills. However during the incineration process many acidic gases, dioxins and heavy metals can be generated, and these must be controlled to a level that conforms to air quality standards. Lührfilter’s Air Pollution Control Technologies have been installed throughout the UK, Europe and the U.S to help minimise harmful emissions and ensure compliance with local, national and regional standards. Find out more about how our systems are used in WtE applications by visiting Lührfilter UK online.

Biomass to Energy

Biomass systems are used to generate power from plant matter such as waste wood, woodchips and dead trees. These fuels are incinerated to provide heat for the operation of steam turbines or gasification plants. These in turn produce electricity to power industrial processes or to be fed back into the national grid. However, the incineration of biomass fuels generates ash residue and releases greenhouses gases into the atmosphere. These must be controlled in order to comply with air quality standards set out in the EU’s Waste Incineration Directive (WID) and other regional regulations. Lührfilter’s filtration systems and their ancillaries have been installed in biomass plants right across the UK, Europe and the United States in order to reduce emissions and achieve compliance.

Ancillary Components

Lührfilter offers a range of ancillary equipment for use with its filtration plant. This includes:

  • Silos
  • Extract hoods
  • Control panels, PLC and HMI
  • Fans
  • Dampers
  • Valves
  • Ducting
