Products

JM Dixon Associates Ltd are design and consulting engineers with over 25 years of industry experience. We offer unrivalled design and draughting services for the manufacture of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks and associated equipment. From the smallest tank to the largest pressure vessel, we can provide a design solution for almost any requirement.

JM Dixon Associates Ltd was set up in 1984 by three ex-Capper Neil Group design engineers. Initially providing design services to local fabricators, the company quickly made a name for itself within the pressure tank and storage vessel manufacturing industry. Today we are one of the leading design consultancies in the market, maintaining strong relationships with a large number of local, national and international clients.

At JM Dixon Associates Ltd, we have a comprehensive working knowledge of the two main pressure vessel design codes PD5500 and ASME VIII Div. 1, and maintain up-to-date copies of both through our membership of the British Standards Institute. We also have experience working to the main storage tank codes: EN. 14015, API. 650 and API. 620. The use of these codes guarantees design quality, reliability and vessel/tank performance.

In the sections below you can find out more about the services we provide. If you would like any further information, or would like to discuss your design requirements with one of our engineers, just give us a call on 01925 222 961.

Vessels

JM Dixon Associates Ltd have experience in the design of all manner of pressure vessels, from small pipes to large, site-assembled vessels, covering any pressure range from -1 bar g to 1500 bar g, at temperatures ranging from -160°C to +750°C. Particular areas of expertise are:

  • Horizontal vessels
  • Vertical vessels / columns
  • Decompression chambers
  • Hyperbaric chambers
  • Site build vessels
  • Bag fillers
  • Thick walled vessels
  • Jacketed vessels
  • Site build spheres

Over the last three decades we have built up a comprehensive working knowledge of the major pressure codes PD5500 and ASME VIII Div.1, and maintain up-to-date copies of these via our membership of the British Standards Institute.

Tanks

From small shop-built tanks to the largest diameter floating roof tanks, JM Dixon Associates Ltd can design a complete range of industry-approved storage tanks for all manner of applications. We have designed storage tanks as large as 100m in diameter for use in locations right across the world. Typical projects include:

  • Coned roof tanks with self supporting roofs or column supported roofs
  • Floating roof tanks with single or double deck roofs
  • Double containment cryogenic storage tanks
  • Site built spheres

These are just some of the types of storage tank we’re able to design. To find out more about our storage tank design services, please visit us online or get in touch with our design engineers on 01925 222 961.

Cryogenic Storage Tanks

JM Dixon Associates Ltd have a great deal of experience in the design of cryogenic storage tanks. These are used across a number of industries for the storage of liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen and argon, meaning they need to be specially designed to minimise heat transfer and to withstand extremely low temperatures. They are usually made up of an inner vessel, an outer vessel and a layer of insulation. We’ve designed cryogenic storage tanks for all sorts of applications and in a wide range of sizes.

FEA

At JM Dixon Associates Ltd we run two FEA stations with Inventor Pro and Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2012. Our engineers have been providing finite analysis reports for over 20 years, and can help you and your company utilise FEA in the design of many components, including:

  • Local Loads on Large Nozzles
  • Pipe Loads on Manifolds
  • Nozzles in Head Knuckle Region
  • Stainless to Carbon in Hot Vessels
  • Cone to Cylinder Junctions
  • Odd Shaped Cones, etc.

Exchangers

We undertake the design of all types of heat exchanger, and can do so according to most of the configurations listed in TEMA. Types of heat exchanger typically designed by JM Dixon include:

  • Fixed Tubeplate
  • Floating Head
  • ‘U’ Tube Bundles
  • Tank Heaters for Storage Tanks
  • Kettle Type Reboiler
  • Single and Multipass Units
  • Single, Divided and Cross Flow, etc.

At JM Dixon Associates Ltd we work extensively with PD 5500, ASME VIII Div. 1 and TEMA classes R, C and B.

Portfolio

Over our 29-year history we have designed pressure vessels, storage tanks and heat exchangers for clients working across many different industries. They have included the likes of BP, Unilever, Exxon Mobile, CHB Jordan, Megtec, Cimeco and many other high profile organisations. They come to us because they know they can rely on our engineering experience and expertise when it really matters. You can find a full list of JM Dixon clients on our website.
