Products

Founded in 1912, Heap and Digby are providers of electrical and mechanical consulting services throughout the UK and the rest of the world, with a commitment to high quality service and punctual project completion.

We have undertaken power projects all over the world, including water pipe refurbishment at Roosecote power station and generation using landfill gas in the UK, fixed asset verification and valuation for hydroelectric power stations in Nepal, and generation and transmission schemes in Africa, Micronesia and the Middle East.

In terms of building services projects, we have worked on school facilities, offices and garages, Manchester Fire Service's command and control centre, a floating fire station, and services for a Toyota assembly building. We have also undertaken marine projects, including lock and marina facilities, passenger piers and passenger access gangways at ports.

Heap and Digby first became a limited company in 1988, after merging with D.J.F Davies and Associates, who specialise in electrical power generation, transmission and utilisation. We now combine our expertise with that of Robert Bruce & Sons to provide an even wider range of services, including mining and quarrying machinery, diesel engine engineering and machinery for the paper and forest products industries.

Building Services and Energy Conservation

We have a wealth of experience in the design and specification of electrical and mechanical services, including heating systems, water supply, ventilation and air conditioning, fire fighting, lighting, power and IT facilities. These may be for industrial or commercial buildings, hotels, shops, schools or leisure facilities.

By advising clients during the preparation of the design brief, we allow them to make decisions early on regarding new techniques and cost saving. Proper commissioning on the plant is vital for trouble-free operation, so we also offer a full commissioning supervision, including checking drawings and operation and maintenance manuals.

Transmission and Distribution

We can also provide design and specification for power transmission, distribution and generation projects. Our feasibility studies include on-site data collection for load forecast preparation, selection of substation and power site location, transmission line route, load flow and fault studies, financial planning and cost estimates.

We perform substation and distribution scheme design and specification to a range of national and international standards, such as ANSI, IEC, REA, VDE and ESI. We can also provide assistance in various aspects of project implementation, such as systems and interface engineering, design coordination, supervision of installation and commissioning, and inspection and expediting.

Maritime and Lifting Bridges

We work alongside civil and structural engineers to perform coastal, river and other maritime projects, including locks, marinas, wharves and jetties, moving bridges, floating maintenance facilities, cranes, passenger access gangways, piers and link spans.

Examples of our maritime work include lock gates and marina facilities at Port Solent Marina, ro-ro link spans and passenger access at Belfast, Holyhead and Fishguard, a maritime lifting bridge in Chatham, a floating maintenance workshop and crane on the Thames, passenger piers in London, and link spans and ferry terminals in the UK and Northern Ireland.

Project Management

To assure that projects are completed on time, to specification and within budget, we provide total project management facilities, with a focus on setting realistic targets. We also offer investors and lenders independent professional advice on projects that they finance.

Examples of our project management include lifting bridges and lock gates in the UK, fixed asset verification and valuation for generation and transmission systems in Mauritius, sewage treatment and refuse disposal schemes in the UK, generation and transmission schemes in Africa, Micronesia and the Middle East, worldwide water treatment and pumping stations, and electrical and mechanical services for industrial and commercial buildings.

Expert Witness and Litigation Support

We can prepare expert reports on electrical installations, power cables, transformers and motors etc., folding doors and other electro-mechanical equipment, vehicle wash and other similar installations, and plant and equipment. These may be for personal injury claims, litigation or defence in prosecutions.

We can also provide legal teams with advice, and have trained Single Joint Experts who have experience in giving evidence in court.

Inspection and Expediting

In projects we are engineering, our inspection and expediting services are often put to use, though they can also be provided separately to clients such as public utilities, government departments, contractors and other consultants.

Inspection and expediting serves the purpose of assuring that manufacturing is done with adequate planning, to the necessary quality and delivered on time. Our inspection and expediting services can be broadly divided into quality assurance, quality control, expediting and special services. Specific services include vendor assessment, monitoring of QA systems, inspection, testing quality control procedures, evaluation of manufacturing programmes, progress monitoring, on-site plant inspection, emergency support and acceptance tests.

Other Services

By combining our expertise with that of Robert Bruce & Sons, we can offer the additional services of diesel engine engineering, paper and forest product machinery, mining and quarrying machinery, power plants and technical documentation.
