Precision Sheet Metalwork

Sheet metalwork is a fundamental part of electronic enclosure manufacture, so naturally we have a great deal of experience in this area. That’s why we’re happy to help with all your sheet metalwork requirements, whether it’s a one-off prototype or a large batch run. Our experience in precision sheet metalwork lends itself to the production of everything from simple sheet metal brackets, copper busbars and screening cans to sheet metal boxes, mounting plates and rackmount panels. Clients can choose from a range of sheet metal materials, including stainless steel, aluminium, galvanised steel, mild steel, aluzinc, brass, copper and zintec.

Graphic Panels

Our facilities enable us to manufacture a range of graphic panels for almost all types of enclosure. These can be either directly screen-printed or made with a basic panel and graphic or membrane overlay. GSM Valtech has considerable experience in the design, manufacture and supply of custom front panels and can offer a solution to most requirements. Panels can be manufactured from a range of materials, including aluminium, zintec, acrylic, mild steel and stainless steel, and may be finished in a variety of ways (for example, painted, anodised, alochromed, zinc plated or natural satin brushed). Fire Surrounds

Over the years, GSM Valtech has designed and manufactured decorative fire trim products for numerous gas and electric fire manufacturing companies. Having become experts in this field, we now supply directly to the commercial market sector and have developed our own portfolio of traditional and contemporary fire surrounds manufactured from a variety of decorative and painted materials, including brass, aluminium and stainless steel. Product Design

Utilising the very latest 3D CAD software, our engineers are able to assist you in all stages of the product development process. As experts in mechanical design, they will ensure your product is ready for manufacture at minimal cost. Bespoke sheet metal products can be made to incorporate various metal and plastic extrusions, injection mouldings, graphic panels and overlays, membrane keypads and gaskets.

Laser Cutting

GSM Valtech carries out a range of in-house engineering procedures, including laser cutting. Laser cutting technologies allow us to cut and profile sheet metalwork into very intricate shapes. It’s a process that can be applied to a variety of materials in a range of thicknesses, from 0.1mm rigid plastic to 12mm mild steel. Maximum sheet size is 2.5m x 1.25m. 

Laser cutting has no tooling costs and gives a better edge finish than CNC punching. However, CNC punching offers much faster process times than laser cutting and is therefore more suitable for larger volumes. CNC Punching

Our CNC punching facilities enable us to produce bespoke sheet metal components in thicknesses ranging from 0.3mm to 6mm. At GSM Valtech we regularly punch mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass and plastic. Our CNC punching machines offer far greater processing speeds than our laser cutting facilities, which means that in most cases punched components will have a much smaller unit cost than laser cut ones (particularly for large volumes). CNC Folding

Our sheet metal folding and bending capacity extends to 80 tonnes, with a maximum width of 2.5m. We have a number of Amada and Promecam CNC folding machines that allow us to produce sheet metal folds of varying complexities. As a company, GSM Valtech has over 35 years of experience in sheet metal bending and can help you with your sheet metal design in order optimise the folding process.

CNC Milling

Our 3-axis CNC milling facilities allow us to produce precision-machined parts up to 630mm x 500mm x 500m. This is a relatively small working envelope, which restricts what we can offer clients in terms of complexity, size of product and speed of manufacture. However, it is cost-effective and it does form an integral part of our sheet metal product manufacturing service. For larger and more complex components we subcontract to several approved suppliers who can offer, amongst other things, full 5-axis machining. Self Clinching Fasteners

Using a range of manual and automatic machines, GSM Valtech is able to fit many different types of self-clinching insert into sheet metal products. We stock a vast range of threaded inserts, self-clinching studs, nuts and standoffs – and if we do not have the parts you need in stock, we’ll source them for you via our network of approved suppliers.

Welding

TIG, MIG and spot welding can be carried out on a range of materials, including aluminium, mild steel and stainless steel. GSM Valtech has both manual and robotic welding facilities, allowing our engineers to complete a variety of complex and intricate welding tasks. The importance of aesthetics in the production of sheet metal enclosures means that we habitually polish and clean welded joints in order to enhance visual appearance. Our robotic welding cell gives the advantage of more consistent and repeatable welds with faster process times and a more accurate finish on complicated shapes/curves.

Powder Coating

At our manufacturing facility in Wetherby we have our very own in-house powder coating and wet spray painting facilities. Our conveyor fed system incorporates three powder booths, one wet spray booth and a drying oven. We currently coat and spray a variety of different metals and plastics, and we have a good range of stock colours and finishes for you to choose from. 

GSM Valtech also has an in-house iridite line for applying the chrome conversion coating to aluminium. We currently use Alocrom 1200 and Alocrom 1000. 

Screen Printing

GSM Valtech also has its own screen printing capability, saving you the time, money and hassle of shipping to another supplier. We have a number of different silk screen tables, as well as a semi-automatic machine for higher volume requirements. Some of our tables have also been specially modified to enable graphic screen printing onto large preassembled sheet metal enclosures and plastic boxes, rather than just flat graphic panels. Electro Mechanical Assembly

As well as basic mechanical assembly, GSM Valtech can offer full electro-mechanical assembly of electronic products/appliances. These can also be fully wired and tested. We can use our customers’ free issue components or can source them ourselves via our network of approved suppliers.
