Fixed stands

Fixed stands are a cost-effective rollforming solution, but need their rolls changing manually and reset for each application. The mill can be spur gear driven or have individual gear boxes at each pass, or a combination of both. On the Formit website you’ll find some examples of conventional “F1” mills with spur gearing drives and de-twist units for “angle” products, as well as examples of custom roll configurations for specific applications.

Rafted mills

Rafted mills are more flexible than fixed stands, having the facility to set rolls off-line without halting production. Rafts can be removed and replaced extremely quickly either by crane or forklift, thus ensuring minimal downtime. Additional rafts may be added later for each product, increasing output with the capability of “just in time” production. You can find some examples of our F2 rafted mills on the Formit website.

Dual type mills

Formit also supplies dual-type mills with two or more rollformers on a single base with a traverse mechanism. These enable an extremely fast changeover and therefore significantly reduce downtime. In fact, they can be reconfigured within just a matter of minutes without need of a crane or forklift.

Duplex mills

Duplex mills can be adjusted for width and height, making them ideal for shelving, cable trays, metal furniture and similar products. They can be supplied within a complete process line that includes pre-pierce, cut-off, rollform and bending equipment, or on their own as individual units. Width and height adjustment can be servo controlled for extra quick programming. Programmable pre-piercing with “unit” tooling can also be supplied. Formit’s design team uses the very latest COPRA® software to design sections, calculate static values, simulate the rollforming process, and to design rolls in the most efficient and cost-effective way. COPRA® software, developed by data M of Germany, combines modern CAD technology with advanced tools for sheet metal profile design and manufacturing.
