When householders are asked what type of heating system they prefer the answer is normally gas whilst in reality what they are looking for is an affordable, fully controllable and flexible heating system. Provision of
this has not always been possible as in many areas of the country there is no access to mains gas. The advent of the direct acting electric boiler and direct acting electric combination radiator systems offer full controllability, they are easy to operate and, on the correct electricity tariff, affordable to run.
What is Direct Acting Electric Heating?
This type of heating allows the homeowner to regulate the times and temperature of their heating system to suit their lifestyle. These systems are not to be confused with antiquated storage heating systems which depend on an overnight charge of electricity.
Many people still believe that the only form of electric heating available is night storage heating. Modern systems supplied by EHC offer the homeowner the same controllability and flexibility that a gas central heating system offers. Individual control on radiators and central control via a programmer and room thermostat enables the homeowner to time the heating to go on and off to suit their lifestyle.
This type of controllability results in energy cost savings throughout the year.
For further cost savings it should be noted that if an electric central heating system is installed there is no annual safety check required and no regular servicing. From a safety point of view there will be no concerns over noxious gases escaping or risk of explosion. Additionally when using electric central heating appliances there is no issue with flues – a significant factor when considering central heating for Listed Buildings. Furthermore, electric heating is 100% efficient as all electricity is converted to heat.
As a solution to your heating needs The Electric Heating Company offers 3 types of Direct Acting Electric Heating systems:
The Fusion Electric Boiler
One of the most complete electric boilers in the market today which, unlike most electric boilers, was designed to eliminate unnecessary external plumbing and pipe work. The boiler has been engineered to include
the Pump, Auto-air vent, Expansion Vessel and Pressure Gauge within the compact casing. As no flue is required the boiler can be located almost anywhere within the property.
To ensure maximum efficiency, the boiler boasts 6 stage heating using a single copper heat exchanger. With this unique facility both electricity consumption and running costs are controlled through any heating cycle.
The operating temperatures of the boiler can be adjusted using the control panel - the temperature outputs range from 40 degrees through to a maximum of 85 degrees centigrade.
Fusion Electric Boiler outputs are 6kW, 9kW, 12kW and 14.4kW for properties which require a higher output.
The boiler can also be used to supply central heating and domestic hot water when used in conjunction with an Indirect Cylinder by means of an S-Plan system. It can also be used for under floor heating systems.
Incorporating the latest technology the Fusion Electric Boiler provides complete peace of mind for reliability, performance and safety.
The Fusion E10 Electric Combination Unit
The Fusion Slimline Electric Boiler and a Stainless Steel Unvented mains pressure domestic hot water cylinder are included within the Fusion E10 unit which provides wet central heating and domestic hot water. This unit is pre-wired and pre-plumbed giving the homeowner complete controllability over their heating and hot water requirements. Designed to fit into a standard airing cupboard the Fusion E10 is available in various outputs and capacities.
EHC Electric Combination Radiators
These radiators look like conventional “wet” system radiators, heat up like conventional “wet” radiators and are 100% efficient. They are maintenance free, modulate to maintain a constant room temperature and do
not produce harmful emissions.
All radiators are 70mm in depth and have outputs from 500 watts to 2400 watts. Each radiator has an in-built thermostat with enables the householder to control the temperature throughout their home.
For a fully controllable system, the radiators within the circuit are connected from the spur to the EHC Control Unit which is located at the metering position. A room thermostat and programmer are also wired to the Control Box which allows the user to operate their system like a wet central heating system. It should be noted that if the wiring from the existing storage heating is to standard then this can be used.
Running Costs & Electricity Tariffs
There is a misconception in the heating market that electric heating is expensive to operate. Although the unit price per kW of gas is currently cheaper than that of electricity there is a broader picture to consider i.e. the
overall cost of installing, maintaining and servicing the systems.
The Electric Heating Company will advise homeowners on the benefits of preferential electricity tariffs following the purchase and installation of their heating system when using the Fusion Electric Boiler, Fusion E10 or EHC Electric Combination Radiators.
