Anaerobic Digestion is a process that has been used to produce Biogas for almost a century by the sewage industry and has been used for solid and liquid waste treatment in many industrial applications. There are a number of significant advantages to using a high efficiency electrical conversion generation unit such as a CHP unit for agricultural anaerobic digestion. Anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge is a well-established process in the UK and this technology has been used for many years by a diversity of industry sectors. Water Plcs in the UK have used Biogas to power sewage sites, which can be exported to the grid in order to offset running costs. Recent developments have led us to Advanced Anaerobic Digestion whereby sewage sludge is treated thermally and/or enzymically before the digestion process. This pasteurises the sludge and enhances the Biogas conversion. Steam heating is often used during this process via the exhaust heat from a Biogas CHP engine.

Methane gas produced by coal mining can contribute greatly to global warming if it is released without treatment and Edina has the solutions to address this problem.
