The company, founded in 1794, was initially a manufacturer of ropes made of manila and other fibers. By the early 1900s, however, Rochester had expanded its operations with the production of steel ropes. The company has since evolved into a world leader in the design and manufacture of electro-optical cables intended for a vast array of applications. The Rochester Corporation currently maintains a state-of-the-art 400,000 square foot (37,000 square meter) facility located in Culpeper, Virginia, USA. This manufacturing facility houses a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, optical, and environmental testing capabilities, as well as its own wire drawing mill which affords the comapny the highest quality carbon steel wire available.
