As a small company, we’re able to provide a level of service that many of our larger competitors can't. Finite Element Analysis

Coupland Bell has been specialising in finite element analysis for many years, and we now use state-of-the-art Solidwork Cosmos FEA software not only for static and thermal analysis, but also for dynamic analysis – the prediction of dynamic response, frequencies and mode shapes. Most of our static analysis experience comes from aerospace and gas turbine projects, while our experience in dynamic analysis is mainly in predicting the resonances of aerofoils and bladed disc assemblies in the aerospace sector alone. Finite element analysis is used to lower design costs and to optimise product performance, efficiency and weight.

Product Development

It’s often helpful and productive to get a second opinion on a prototype or design, and it’s a good idea to consider any alternative solutions that could prove to be cheaper and/or more effective. Coupland Bell engineers are very often able to develop new concepts that are more robust and less expensive to produce than the initial ideas proposed by our clients. Their industry experience and application expertise enables them to solve even the most unusual or complex mechanical design problems. Prototype Design & Virtual Prototyping

Almost all new components and products require some level of simulation or modelling in the early stages of development. It offers a cost-effective way of testing the design and predicting performance, so that changes can be made as early as possible. We tend to use a combination of advanced MathCAD software and simple spreadsheet programmes to work up models that enable clients to develop new and improve existing products. We’ve developed models for all kinds of parts, products and components, from marine propellers and wave energy systems to gas turbine combustors and acoustic damping systems.

Industrial Noise & Vibration Control

Vibration control is another area in which Coupland Bell has a great deal of experience. We are able to provide noise and vibration consultancy and failure analysis for a variety of machines, particularly gas turbines and other forms of turbo machinery such as wind turbines, marine propulsion systems, propellers and fans. Our engineers conduct a full site survey in order to establish the exact cause of the problem. We then advise you on the measures that might be taken to rectify problem or mitigate the effects. Mathematical Modelling Simulation

Coupland Bell uses a variety of modelling techniques for product simulation and testing, including 3D CAD modelling, virtual prototyping, MathCAD and spreadsheet-based mathematical modelling. As mentioned in the section above, we also use finite element analysis and flow modelling to optimise performance, weight and cost (where appropriate).
